Congratulations! A 51!
Many sailors get a 51 and become a Mop-Specialist's Mate, First Class! You are well on your way.
No worries. If you can't be a pilot, there is always a mop and a bucket waiting for you on a tiny cruiser that is being tossed in the waves somewhere on the high seas!

the answer above mine lied to you. You would not qualify for Quartermaster, Signalman and a lot of other staff positions. Quartermaster gang members are part of the Navigation Officers elite, and higher math is a must, even in todays GPS navy. The old sextant is still the back up for the gps going off line.
As for a signalman, you have to be equally sharp, Operations Specialist (radar/sonar) requires a high score.
I'm not meaning to be rude, but i have never worked in an NEC or MOS that was under 110 to 115 minimum score. I have always worked rather technical feilds, easy work, but the schools were from hell.
If you made a 51, you may not be offered a lot of "fancy jobs" but if you can go to chef school and get out, you could go find a city you want to live in and take home about 150,000 a year cooking......I know a lot of smart and not so smart people who did this.
good luck to you. Boatswain's mate have a lot more danger that just falling overboard, (often fatal, ships have props you know, sharks follow ships for the food dumped, and dependant on the ship, you might be falling 90 feet to the water.
as a BM, you could, be killed by a line snapping, cargo hitting you, and many other stupid things. It is a great job, have friends who loved it...it is the navy bread and butter, the very best, just be smart and do \your time, retire and live the good life

Yes, the ASVAB is timed and you can't use a calculator. The test isn't too bad but that depends on your test taking skills and general knowledge of various subjects. I recommend getting one of these prep books
It can make a big difference in how well you do since you'll know exactly what to expect on the test. The higher your score, the more opportunities you'll have and the better jobs you can qualify for so don't take the test lightly just because some people say it's easy. There's a big difference between doing okay and doing extremely well.
The prep/study book will get you used to the timing of the test so you know how long to spend on each question and get used to the time pressure you'll be under. They give you everything you need to know to do well. Good luck!

You have to have a four year degree, there is no way around that. And as far as the 51, that will qualify you for a lot of jobs. It depends on the breakdown of your scores, the AFQT score means very little. the 51 is made up of several other scores that determine what jobs you can get. Only a recruiter can tell you what all you are qualified for.

Pilots are officers. You need about a 110 or so for the services to think about OCS. There is actually a seperate test for officers as well. If you want to be a pilot, you need to go to NROTC or the academy are the best way to do that.

No you can't be a pilot, but you can be a cook, boatswain's mate, quartermaster, signalman, or a damage controlman. At 51 though, I highly recommend BM.
As a cook, you might cut yourself. As a quartermaster, you'll run the ship aground, as a signalman you'd steer other ships aground, and as a DC you'll accidently cut your arm off with the torch.
Worst case as a BM, you'll fall over board.
GOOD LUCK

not to be rude but maybe you should study and retake the test... with that score you're not gonna get a good job... I scored a 91 and still didn't get some of the jobs available that I wanted....

You need a degree to be pilot. MEPS will tell you what jobs you can do. It is possible to get waivers for a few points, so make sure to ask!
