I am new here, as my family transfered from the US. I was shopping the other day and I noticed how short the shirts were. Then I noticed that men in the UK pull their pants up real high. Why do they do this? In the US, the men wear their pants below their stomach. Americans wear their pants at the same height as the waistband of men's bikini briefs or pair of speedos.

At the risk of offending Americans, we simply dress much smarter and take far more pride in our appearance than our US colleagues. I wear my trousers (pants) high up with a belt as it looks better and more professional. It is the same with other items of clothing. Men here wear their shirts and ties much smarter, where as in America, the shirt collars are often soft and the ties are knotted shabbily.

No, you've got it wrong. British men wear their pants at the right height. American men are all so fat that it's impossible for them to wear pants at waist level because of their big bellies. In the UK, this is recognised as a problem commonly known as "builder's bum". British men who can't wear their pants at waist level usually go on a diet.

Probably because that is the way the manufactures make the pants (trousers) if hipsters were in fashion for men they would probably wear pants below their stomach, that's all I can think of.

I don't think people here do actually! I think British people have a much better sense of style than Americans..by the way the word you're looking for is 'wear'.

Cos we're BRITISH. Like British men wear socks with sandals, knotted hankies on our heads when it's hot - it's tradition.

Because British men normally not too fat - they can wear their trousers at their waists....no need to pull them down under to the hip.
