I walk my dogs to the bay and back everyday which i would think is about two miles in total. Would it be better to get roller skates or bike ride for longer distances? Which one is more of a workout?

well it just depends. there's endurance and there's heart rate/cardio stuff. about 30 minutes a day, of anything, is good, and walking is always great, not to mention a good habit to get into for the rest of your life. it's not highly aerobic, especially if the route you take is not very hilly or anything, but you could always walk more briskly, anything to get your heart rate up and that would be fine. if you are walking very slowly, really taking your time, it probably is better than nothing, but not that great for exercise.

Two 45 min. walks a day at a brisk pace to work up a sweat and get your heart pumping wouldn't be bad.
