Since my last job, I've been unemployed for two years and this question paralysis me when I think about interviews. I shut down immeidately after scheduling a interview and it's like my mind goes blank and I know I carry this state of mind to the interview with me, which projects bad vibes. The only hope I run with is that maybe this time I'll get lucky and they'll pick me, other then this I feel like a brick wall standing in front of the interviewer .

How about the truth?! As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience, now retired, and as one who hired individuals for a governmental bureaucracy, I can tell you that the truth is overwhelmingly refreshing. So many applicants come to the interview "putting their best foot forward", and that's understandable, but as one who has conducted many of those interviews, I get incredibly bored and frustrated and tired of having to weave through all the nonsensical "perfect me" images that the applicants try to give me, as if they were the first such person trying such a scam, that when a truly honest person arrives in the chair across the desk from me, I'm wonderfully amazed and refreshed, and unless they are totally and completely incompetent mentally and professionally, I'm inclined to hire that honest person even if their qualifications are somewhat lower than all the other applicants or even if they have some "dark secret" in their past, like not having been employed for two year. Trust me, Try honesty. You'd never believe how much we want that in an applicant. God Bless you and Best of luck.

I totally understand cuz i've been unemployed for 2 years too but i always use college as my excuse. But nonetheless, I still can't help but feel retarded when they ask my why that is. (Which I think brings a dark cloud over the interview, thus ending in me not getting the job.) I've been on sooo many interviews & still not on person interested!!! I started to even wonder if it was my physical appearance, the way my hair smelled, etc... Lol I live in NYC where the job market here is horrible, even for a college grad so my answer (for myself is)- Move back home (though it's very depressing not being in NYC anymore) to make some money @ my former job where i made a good rep for myself. In the meantime, I'll continue to look for a job in NYC but i'll make sure to get the job FIRST before I move back over there. As for you, I believe you can do it, just think POSITIVELY (alla "The Secret"), like there isn't a damn thing wrong with you and you will ultimately find that one job that will show their interest and hire you .

Best of luck!!

Ive been unemployed for 3 years, and although i dont get many interviews, because of that reason when i do get an interview and they ask me i jsut tell them it wsa due to medical reasons that have now resolved and im ready to get back into the workforce!
Its a good way of telling a white lie without getting to involved in it, because they never ask why or what was wrong with you!
Good Luck

You need to get motivated and stop the self pity, it has been two years, and you know you have to do better than that. You need to stop taking that monkey on your back with you on interviews, and take God with you instead. Ask the Lord to help give you a peace of mind, and a will to help yourself, to get though this time of need. I promise if you make one step, he will make two, if you just believe, it can happen for you just like it happen for me. You are at your lowest point, what do you have to loss, just pray, and give God a chance, you have to have faith in God and yourself. Don't give up on you, because I was you, and I came through, and you can too.

You need therapy for your anxiety...possibly medication if it is too overwhelming. Try to at least check on some books on building self confidence. Take deep breaths!
