hahah.. hecks yea.. That big ole wooden TV with the big black turn style knobs.. Those were the days though..

We didn't have the rabbit ears.. I'd take a hanger and stick it to the back.. Seemed to work quite well..

LOL YES!!!! i remember the old TVs, I remember when we got a COLOR TV set (everyone in the neighborhood came over to see, I think I was 8 or 9), and I can even remember when we got "cable" as opposed to antennas...THAT was funny, there was nothing on but a test pattern and elevator music, but everone was all excited about it! We had a TV with no knobs when I was first married; it was a good way to keep the kids from changing the channels.

Yes, I remember getting up to change the channels and we had the pliers because our knobs were broken off too. I also remember our first 'color' TV. It was a piece of plastic type film with red at the top and green at the bottom that you put over the screen. Poof, color TV!

The vertical & horizontal hold buttons were on the back of our set, and you had to have a master's touch to get the flopping effect to go away...my uncle Larry was a wizard in this regard. He also got one of the first "blab-off" gadgets for his Packard-Bell TV so he could turn off the sound during commercials. Remember too, the TV repairman was the king of the trades in those days...only he could find out what was wrong and get it right so you could watch Ed Wynn and Milton Berle and BASEBALL. 3 channels in L.A. in those early days, and TV screens were really tiny then too...but the cabinets were Real Furniture. The fanciest ones had grillwork doors with gold bits & fabric behind the grill...or "hand" carved effects with scrolly designs.

Yes, we still had manual TV knobs into the 80's. So it wasn't
all that long ago for us. Now we have so many remotes in
our living room, we have to search for them half the time.
We have them for Tivos' and VHS machines, and basic tv,
and satelite etc. I know a Universal will take care of that tho.
We never have had to use pliers. Tho I know some people
did.

Of, course! We had a black & white TV that set in the middle of a wooden chest and you could pull out the bottom where there was a phonograph to play 78's, 45's, & 33's, and it also had a radio built-in just below the TV. We had to sit up real close to see the picture and to change the channel...but ONLY when your parents said you could! LOL

I don't remember the pliers, but I do remember sitting in front of the tv on Saturday mornings eating cereal. You had to sit close so you could change it during commercials.

Oh, yes. Big ugly thing it was. I can't imagine what I would do now if I had to change a channel manually.

I like your new hairstyle.

You always make me laugh.

well, I will have to admit we all watched a lot of commercials in those days, didn't we! How in the hell do you think everyone here knows who Madge is, etc.? But you will have to admit, somehow, programming was a lot better in those days, so changing channels was not nearly as necessary as it is today..unless, of course, you cannot live another day to see you survived on "Surviver." ( Does ANYONE give a crap who is on, who survives, what they do, who they do, etc?) I have had it up to here with reality TV...it is anything but reality, it is just simply lame! I have reached the point where I would rather sit here and answer silly trivia questions (with wrong answers, but whose counting) than watch the drivel that is thrown at us nightly. Goldwing ( and by the way, I have not thrown out my pliers...I need them to change the settings on one of my AC units...somethings just never change :-)
