I missed out on the earlier resolution of this question...so I'd like to respond. I can smell cancer in people. I've been in training classes, at work, in restaurants, etc., and smelled a certain odor. It's a rather strange, sweetish odor, sort of cinnamony, if I had to say a 'ballpark' odor, but that's not it exactly. I have either found out at the time, or later on that there was a person present who had some sort of cancer. The training class in particular, the instructor told us that she had cancer before the class was over. I had almost determined that it had to be her, because the smell would come and go as she walked up & down the aisle between the tables in our class. I smelled this smell very strongly coming from a man I talked to at work a few weeks ago. He has had numerous health problems, & although he looked more healthy than I had seen him in a long time, he still didn't look quite 'right'. I'm trying to find out discreetly. My husband is beginning to believe me

If it makes you feel better, I for one,do not think your are crazy!

There was a story in a newspaper about a dog that kept sniffing at a mole on the owner's leg so much the person finally had it looked at; and it was cancerous.

So, I suspect it is possible that some forms of cancer emit certian odors. It could also be that the cancer doesn't directly produce an odor, but the presence of cancer causes the body to produce some material that a healthy individual does not. I wouldn't surprise me that due to genetics, or whatever reason, certian people are able to smell these odors that others don't even notice.

Maybe you could contact your doctor, or a medical school etc, and do some kind of research study to scientificly determine if you do, or do not have, this ability, and if so, what kinds of cancer you can detect.

There has been some people that have said one can smell cancer in a person in the late stages when very ill before death. I don't think it would be a pleasant smell. I think it would be the shutting down of the body organs which might expel gas. But I'm only guessing,
Animals can but they have sense of smell 10 thousand time the capacity of humans. But they also have to be trained to do it as they can't talk.

Most people don't have such a developed/keen enough sense of smell to be able to smell diseases on other people. But a lot of animals do.

That said, I don't see why it's not possible for you to have more developed sense of smell. Maybe that is the gift or talent you're born with.

The question then becomes, what can you do with that gift? Should you/can or do you provide this sort of public service and tell people that they might have cancer? On the one hand it would be great to use your talent, you might help them catch the disease early enough for treatment and/cure. But then how would/could you approach it? It's a tricky one.

Sometimes one particular sense is stronger to compensate another weaker sense. Some people who are blind for example, might develop better hearing. So, you say you can smell the odour ommitted by someone with cancer, I believe you.

My girlfriend smelled a sweet smell on herself that no one else could detect before she was diagnosed with cancer. She thought she was crazy, but she described it as sweet yet repulsive. I couldn't detect what she was smelling but she insisted for months before she was diagnosed that she smelled and that the smell was coming from her. I saw one other person who smelled a sweet smell on their friend who was inflicted with cancer before they were diagnosed. Therefore you are not smelling the chemo, you are smelling whatever the person is emitting and most others cannot do that. You may want to find out by further study if you can smell cancer the way dogs do through test tubes that have the breath of someone who has cancer and others who don't for further investigation of this. Maybe you can help many with cancer who do not even realize they need to get checked. I would want you to tell me if you smelled it on me. If I were you I wouldn't hold my tongue about it especially with those you know.

Have you thought also that you may be smelling the chemo coming from their skin? That is what you are smelling, not the cancer unless there is dead tissue around the cancer on the outside of their bodies. Now, I will tell you this, when I am around seniors I smell a "sweet, sickening" smell and that is the tissue dying off of the person and they are ready to pass. I have had this happen to me all my life. So.....my conclusion to this is; you are smelling the treatments that the patient is getting and it is coming out from their pores and onto their clothes and wherever they go you can smell it. Good Luck !!

I can believe that it could be so - infection of any type has it's own smell.
Animals know it but we are less sensitive to smell than they are.
