In 2002, a study by researchers under Cathy Ryan, a University of Calgary associate professor, appeared in the Canadian Journal of Public Health. The study was conducted on the contents of 76 water bottles obtained from students at Calgary Elementary School in Canada.
Thirteen per cent of 75 bottles contained bacteria exceeding the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines, and nearly nine per cent had fecal coliforms. Overall, more than 64% of the samples exceeded the drinking water criteria for heterotropic bacteria.
Samples of available drinking water sources showed that they were below the detection limits for these bacteria, and the researchers concluded that the contamination in the bottles probably arose from students not washing their hands, and that the students may be better off drinking from water fountains at the school.

I believe there is a maximum number of times to refill a PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottle, if thats what youre asking. After the drink is consumed, the bottlle can be refilled at least several times before being discarded.

Not too much... you can refill it over and over but you should change water bottles every three days.
If you use a plastic bottle (those that sell for $1/2... not the expensive ones) then it is a must that you change your water bottle every three days.
If you use a metal one then I wonder whether you feel safe drinking iron.

you mean like a bottle for the water you buy prebottled in the store? I suppose you can refill it until the plastic starts to disintegrate. it is recommended that you wash it before each refill though, or else bacteria will accummulate in the bottle and could make you sick.

I'm not sure about the number but i know that it isn't healthy to keep using it. I would't do it that much maybe 5 times (depends how awftin you refill)
i am talking about water bottles that you buy with watter in them.

how ever much you want, some people will refil thiers for months, others need a new one evry day, it depends upon what type of person you are, and im guessing you change your water bottle, or atleast wash it atleast once a week, but i could be wrong.

the problem comes from our mouths,
when we drink from a bottle, some of the bacteria that live naturally in our mouths , gets transfered into the bottle.
after a few days without sterilisation, it can start to smell a bit off.
the number of times, is not the issue, it is how long
If you pour the water into a cup, after filling it, that helps

I've heard it can be unhealthy to reuse a water bottle over and over again. Bacteria and other germs fester in your bottle and can cause illness. I'd say no more than 3 or so days.

Until the bottle goes bad...is crinkled or has a smell that you cannot remove.
I usually get rid of mine after about 2 months even if they don't look horrible (every so often I'll buy the large cases just for the bottles and just keep filling them).
