This is really a very old panel.
Try to watch a movie with lots of shadows and see if you like it.
Play also sports and SD content. the response time may be slow (12 to 15 ms).

Contrast ratio is kind of like an industry number jargon. The naked eye can't really differentiate a couple of TVs' picture quality based purely on contrast ratio. Factors that matter far more are things such as black level, response time, refresh rate, all of which have a far more direct hand in picture quality.

In the end, the only sure-fire way to pick out a good TV that you're happy with is by going to a brick-and-mortar store like Best Buy, stand about 6 feet away and compare pictures. You may also want to ask for a store associate to allow you to tweak with the TV's options, because places like Sam's Club have been known to push out the red and crank up sharpness to give it an artificial "popping" effect for their display model TVs.

Recently I purchased a LCD TV with 3200:1 contrast ratio, but the picture quality was significantly better than a LG model claiming to have a higher contrast ratio. Trust your eyes, not the numbers.

Once contrast ratios exceed 2000:1, it will be difficult to see the difference. However, 800:1 is a very poor value, and is only satisfactory if you plan to watch TV in a brightly-lit room all the time. You will notice it mostly when the picture is supposed to fade to black, and instead remains gray. It is not so noticeable in normal pictures, but when the scene gets dark, it won't look right. Try looking at movies with dark scenes, and if it doesn't bother you, then it's ok. The main reason LCD tv's have poor contrast ratio is that the black level is poor (screen never shows any real black).
