I found this website through a lady at the military hospital called ANYSOLDIER.COM. It gives soldiers in Iraq and other places a chance to post about their expierience and request items that they need or want. I really want to send a lot of things to the soldiers, but I need relatively inexpensive items that would be good for them since I'm only 14 and get a small weekly allowance (nothing like movies and cds that cost some money). I was thinking things like Kool-Aid packets, Beef Jerkey, Guitar Picks, and socks. My dad was in the military and my brother is currently in the military on a tour so I feel that I should donate as much as I can to the troops :]

What are some inexpensive items like the ones I listed that would be good to send to the troops? Where is the cheapest place you can get the item so I can get a lot of them?

I also suggest that you go to anysoldier.com and check it out. They do a lot for us and my brother tells me how much he enjoys packages and such :]

Thanks!

My husband is there right now and signed up for the anysoldier.com for his troops. Beef Jerky is perfect - also the Propel water sells small packets like koolaid - suntan lotion, bug spray, trail mix, coffee packs - all of those can befound at the dollar store - honestly anything that reminds them we are thinking of them at home......one idea might be to have a book drive at your school or in your neighborhood. Ask people to give you old books they've already read and send those over! It gives the guys something to do and they LOVE receiving things that can keep their minds elsewhere.

God bless you for even thinking about doing this - thank you so much!!!!!

Having been there four times the best thing to send is stuff to read..but also send a cammo makeup kit, gun cleaning supplies, gloves every couple of months, military reg bug spray, batteries, and mre's if you can find them...Trust me that and your support goes a long way...I got back from Iraq and some idiots at the airport were protesting the war as well as the Militrary men...Me and others were called "baby-killers" and such (and no I am not a Haditha Marine (joke)) it was disheartning to have that happen...

it's great that you want to do something at such a young age. I think it is great.

As for things that are cheap you can send.

Baby wipes (helps keep them clean when a shower isnt available.)

you can go to a doctors office or any other waiting room and ask if they have magazines they are willing to give up

hygine supplies are also good you could ask a dentist office to donate them.

a lot of the other stuff you mentioned would be good too. I know I would have liked getting those things while I was there. Anything is nice to get to be honest. Sometimes just holding something you know came from the states is enough and It also helps to know people are thinking of us

BY THE WAY IT IS SO SAD THAT THE LIBERALS ON HERE CAN'T REFRAIN FROM PUSHING THEIR POLITICAL AGENDA ON A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL WANTING TO HELP PEOPLE. GIVE IT A REST GUYS YOU ARE LOOKING DESPERATE

Let's see... Soldiers over there really appreciate the little things. If you can I'd slip a little note in the packages just saying thank you.. and you appreciate them. Even though you don't know them personally, it makes a huge difference to them. You could send a deck of cards for their free time, (which isn't much but from what I've heard the guys could use some entertainment items..) Candy might work too, and little snacks - like your jerky idea. Or beverages, just I'd only send ones that just require water. They don't really have access to too much sugar over there. I hope that that helps a little.

I think they will enjoy anything you send. Guitar picks may be a good idea and if you go to a Guitar Store (One that sells only guitars), tell them what you doing and they may donate or sell at cost to you. Kool-Aide be good, buy the sweetened kind, some may just eat it like candy. Beef Jerky a big hit, but, it can get expensive. But, you could make it.

I use Bottom Round (Use what you can) and the Butcher will know how to cut.
The Dollar Store answer is good too.

Check out the Kim Komando Website Message Boards. One list of things to send our Troops is in this thread:

I'm sure anything mentioned in Operation Komando would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for supporting the Troops!
