He just arrived at Fort Knox on 9/13/07 and can't call me or email me his mailing address (and he can't even write me because he doesn't know MY mailing address)...basically, I can't send him a letter. Who in Fort Knox, or on any base, would know how to find a soldier's mailing address?

Off the top of my head, you could look up the AG company for Fort Knox (It's where trainees report to before basic). you should be able to find an address to send mail to people there, and if has moved to a training company they should be able to forward it.

Probably the best way will be to hear from him, either in a letter or by phone. His drill sergeants will tell him what his mailing address is, which he can then forward on to you.
(P.S. -- The "reception" phase usually only lasts about 2 or 3 days.)

Well, He should be able to get it to you after his in-processing. He needs to know his company and that stuff before he can give you a definate address. At least that is how it worked when my husband was in. He'll be able to soon. They won't make him go his entire basic without a phone call. Whatever you do, DO NOT call his chain of command while he's there. I made the mistake of doing that when my husband was in BCT and he said.. "sh*t rolls downhill.." He got in trouble for that. My best advice.. wait until he calls. He will call. You'll need his Roster number, which is basically like his name down there. Just whatever you do.. don't call or write his chain of command. lol.
When I wrote my hubby it looked something like this
#123 His Name
His Company and unit
Street and number of the place he was staying
city, state
zip code
I dunno if that helps or not. I hope it does. But you'll probably have to wait for a phone call. Hopefully you can receive one.. I wasn't sure if you meant that he couldn't call because of training, or because he doesn't have your number.

Reception usually only last one week.
Once his training begins, he will get one 30 second phone call, usually to his parents to let them know he arrived and he is ok.
After that, they usually get letter writing time on Sundays if they dont get in trouble. After the frist 3 weeks, depending on if they get in trouble again, they start to get phone call privledges on Sundays.
You can try to look his unit up online if they have one. Most BCT units have a schedule up so you should be able to narrow it down to what company he is in once the phone call is done. They do this so loved ones can start planning trips for graduation.

Usually the services will give the trainee a few post cards they can address to loved ones with their address on it. You might contact his parents and see if they have the new address. Otherwise just sit tight for a few days until you hear from him via phone

Will he write to someone? His parents maybe? That would be your best bet. Or wait for the first phone call. At Ft.Jackson we were required to send a letter to someone during the first week (after reception). He may even still be in reception. I would just wait and try to contact someone he would write to.

Do you know his parents' mailing address? The service usually makes sure he/she tells his parents.
Also, his recruiter will have his address in basic training.
good luck!
