Your're right. Why does God appear to stand at a distance when we suffer? To answer this question we need to look again at Jesus. In Jesus we see a God who enters our broken world. Jesus entered our fallen world and entered fully into all that it means to be human. He knew what it felt like to be destitute and homeless, he knew what it was like to be despised and rejected by people, he knew the heartache of losing someone close to him and he knew the loneliness of losing his best friends.
Though many writers in the Bible complained about suffering and evil....the Scriptures make it plain that God did not create the world in the state in which it is now, but evil came as a result of the selfishness of man. The Bible says that God is a God of love and He desired to create a person and eventually a race that would love Him. But genuine love cannot exist unless freely given through free choice and will and thus man was given the choice to accept God’s love or to reject it ... choose 'good' or 'evil.' "War, rape, starvation, and more," is the result of this.
You're right, Having a disease, being raped, or murdered, are not choices. But they are the resullt of others choices. Certainly, God is capable of destroying evil and suffering--but not without destroying human freedom, or a world in which free creatures can function. How do we as Christians respond to the problem of evil? With sorrow. With sadness. With revulsion. With perplexity. With questions that have no answers ... Each of us has had wrong thoughts, evil thoughts. Each of us has done something wrong — something evil. Why does God allow evil within us? Why does He allow the innocent to suffer? None of us deserves to escape punishment, and yet God allows escape, too. If we ask why there is evil, we should also ask why there is mercy. Let us fight against evil and needless suffering, starting with ourselves.

He might seem that way, but remember He has a Law that must be obeyed and we just want it OUR way, not His..and if we do not obey....we suffer.
He does love you and has a plan for your life. Look up! He overcame for you...
We suffer not for punishment but because it is like the law of gravity....it just has to happen. If we eat wrong, it brings on disease. If we jump off a roof, we get crippled....etc...
I suggest you read the book of John and try to get some peace about all this. You can be happy in the mist of all this Earth offers.
This is not all there is...the best is yet to come.

No.
Sometimes kids have to learn a lesson on their own. There are times to rush into the rescue, and there are times to let them learn. God is there the whole time, and He is watching out and He said that He'll never let things get over what we can do. So He does help, and other times when He tries to help people shrug Him off. People have a way out in their situations, and some are so worried about the door that closed that they do not see the one that is opened.
When I used to fall, my parents helped me up. Then just sometimes they helped me up, and now when I fall. I get up. God takes care of us and does help us out more than you know, but that doesn't mean that He is always going to calm the storm... Sometimes, we gotta work too.

Cold? I've heard many things about God which is not accurate, but I must honestly and truly and sincerely say that, that is the last thing He is. I can understand though why you have this perception of Him, because it is difficult for a person who does not have a deep relationship with Him to have a clear understanding of Him. Get to know Him and you will see He is exactly the opposite.

No its actuallly man thats cold...The bible was once god word..but man changed it my friend
In a verse of the Quran, Jesus confirmed the validity of the Torah which was revealed to Moses, and also conveyed he glad tidings of a final Messenger who follow him: "And when Jesus son of Mary said, 'Children of Israel, I am indeed the Messenger to you, confirming the Torah that is before me, and giving good tiding of a Messenger who shall be the praised one."(As-Saff 61:6)
Note that "praised one" is a translation of "Ahmad" - The Prophet Mohammed's name. Careful study of the New Testament shows that Jesus refers to the same Prophet in John 14:16-17: "And I will give you another Counsellor (ThProphet Mohammed). To be with you for ever, even the Spirit of Truth."
The usual explanation of this Prophecy is that the counsellor referred to is the Holy Spirit, but this explanation is excluded by a previous verse in John: "Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counsellor will not come to you."
The characteristics of this counsellor, as can be derived from the prophecy, are that he will stay forever with the believers, he will glorify Jesus; and he will speak that he hears form God. All four characteristics apply to the Prophet Mohammed. He came six centuries after Jesus. He came six centuries after Jesus. He came with a universal and everlasting message, fulfilling the prophecy that the counsellor will stay forever with the faithful. He glorified Jesus as a great Prophet. The Quran attributes to Jesus miracles not mentioned in the Bible's Old and New Testaments, as well as specific verses in the Quran show how the Prophet Mohammad is rejected by Jews and Christians out of prejudice and misunderstanding, rather that carefully study the Bible.

Sin, mankind, Satan and God's curse for the sin of Adam and Eve are why there is suffering and death in the world. As for God helping His children, and others; Christians are commanded to alleviate the suffering of this world in the name of Jesus Christ. In fact, all of mankind is commanded by God to do so. Can you blame God for the failings of mankind?

Reach out to Him. That's when the suffering is..not necessarily gone, but eased, because you have someone to go through it with. He allows these things to show us how to be strong in Him. Just kind of like a parent doesnt WANT his child to run outside and let them trip and scrape their knee, but they do it because we've got to live and learn, and then come back to the parent and say--I need you-help me fix my skinned knee, and show me the way of how not to hurt myself again! I agree with the first person. How can you call THAT cold?!
Love in Christ,
Rae

What would you learn of you were in perfect comfort?
Even Jesus learned obedience from suffering.
Our faith is tested through trials and suffering.
Our character is recreated through trials and suffering.
Grace is given to the humble in the midst of trials.
One other thing:
if you continued to get in these messes and your parents ALWAYS bailed you out, you wouldn't change. You would continue to get into the same messes.
