Well, my female Shih Tzu, Poochie, is in heat, and I left her loose with one of my male Shih Tzu pups, Sammie for the past week. My daughters told me that they mated at least 5 or 6 times. So, how many puppies will I have?
If I have done my adding right, the puppies should be born in late November, so they would be about 5 weeks old on Christmas! Can I sell them then? And, do you charge extra if they are ready for Christmas?
What do you think?

Cindy, do you really think 10? Her first litter was 9 and her second one was 7, although I lost one pup from each litter.
I though 5 weeks should be fine. That is how one my other female, Hershey, was when I got her!
If you want one, I'll save you a male. I heard something about not mating a female with a larger male for one reason or another, so I think an male would be better for your labs. Would you like me to teach him to use a ladder, just to help you out?

My magic 8 ball tells me you will have 10 puppies.
You can sell them as Christmas presents to anyone who shows up with the money you ask for them. Puppies as gifts are always a good idea.
You always charge extra at Christmas.
My advice is not free. I want to be chosen as best answer and I want a free puppy to start my own line of shizadors with my labradoodledoos.

your dog can have anywhere from 1 -10.
Pups aren't to leave momeuntil theyare 8 weeks old.
NO you don't charge extra unless you are doing it to make money.
Now about the money that should be spent out was for genetic test done before breeeding, registering the litter, wormings at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks ( get teh wormer at teh vets) and you also do mom. MOm should be on a very good quality puppy food with additional vitamins such as nutrical.
Pups should get their first shotat 6 weeks which should be your responsability not the new owner. Don't forget the additional food the pups will eat from 3 weeks on. oh and they need a second shot at 9 weeks if they don't go by then.
I hope there isn't a c-section
and before all this at about 4-5 weeks into the pregnancy she (b-i-t-c-h) needs to go for a check up and a sonogram to make sure all is going ok.
Hope you have planned ahead for all this as it does cost. My vet after the pups are born charges for 5 pups $10 for each worming so that's $20, vet check and shot is $45 per pupwhich is $225. If I need a c-section on normal time it's $500 and emergency which is most of the time as dogs seem to like to birth in the middle of the night it's $800
WEll good Luck

No, it is illegal to sell pups under 8 weeks of age not to mention they need their mother to teach them things for those last 3 weeks. Plus their immune systems are not developed enough to leave the nest.
She does not need to mate any more then once to ensure pregnancy and that has nothing to do with how many pups you will get.Get her away from the male. They won't mate unless she is ready and once a mating has taken place the deed is done. Stop turning this into some kind of a circus.
You know so little about this stuff that I would venture to say you have good chance at losing the mother and the pups out of pure ignorance. If you can't figure out the basics of breeding, then how the helll are you going to raise a litter. All you seem to care about is how many and Christmas money... Get a life! And then spay your female, she deserves better then this and doesn't owe you anything.
Save your money for the next 63 days. C-Sections are about 2000.00 and your breed is prone to needing one.
OBVIOUS TROLL HERE.

I would wait until the pups are at least 8 weeks old as they acquire a great deal of puppy socialization from their parents and littermates.
As they are your puppies, the choice lies ultimately for you.
The best way to find out how many puppies there will be is by ultrasound.
I would definitely steer away from selling Christmas pups. You won't get more money and many of these poor dogs end up abandoned once the novelty of them being a present wears off. Not to mention that it is a very stressful time to introduce a young puppy to its new home. You can always accept deposits to hold puppies until after the Holiday season is over. By then it will have given potential owners time to really think about the responsibilities that are inolved in adding a new pet to their family and the puppy will be introduced to a quieter environment.

Ahh creative. If only everyone knew this was a joke.(this is unfortunatle how many people breed dogs ) You have a pretty good imatation of back yard breeder down.Whats next? i cant wait to see .
Of course charge more at christmas what does it matter if they will end up at a shelter 3 weeks later.
hopefully lots of pups
more pups =more$$$
sell them at 5 weeks they will be small and cute and you can call them teacups .I wish you would have breaded teacup greatdanes or shipooslabadog something more unusual.
anyways i will have 2
one male, one female then they can bread and i can make $ too.(wont have any birth defects? if they do oh well ill sell them to anyone and make money.
ill call them extra small teacup dogs. and soon ill be rich
so thats 2 teacup pups 5 weeks old
also they better not poop.bark, shed, good with kids, very small, no training needed and can be left outside all day.also a gold collar would be nice .
hopefully everyone will get this is what BYBS and puppy mills do , and wil no longer buy dogs from them.

You will have 2 puppies for each time the dogs mated. It's a good thing you left your young daughter to watch those two so you will know what to expect!
Christmas is the perfect time to sell puppies because you can make extra money. And isn't that why anyone breeds dogs?
The only mistake you have made is breeding purebred dogs. Why didn't you breed your shih tzu with a poodle to make shih poos? Now that would have been awesome!!!!!11111 Also, teacup dogs are better. The smaller the better. Pocket dogs!!!!!!!!111 It's best if they are the kind that don't shed or poop either, because everyone knows that is grosssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

5 weeks old is too young to be sold. They must be at LEAST 8 weeks old before they leave their siblings & mother. Preferably, closer to 12 weeks!
The amount of times they mate, doesn't add up to how many puppies they'll have. Is this her first litter? They tend to have a small litter, the first time around.
A lot of people purchase pets during the holidays, but it's also one of the worst times to sell them (many are bought as presents, and the receiver doesn't want the responsibility). They often end up in the wrong hands, or in a shelter by February.

Dont' charge extra, because no one will want off-the wall, poorly bred Shih tzus.. Well, people will, but it still should not have been done.. If YOU are asking US.. you need help. You can get an X-ray or Ultrasound after 40-50 days of gestation. We are not psychics. Go to the vet, and then get all your dogs fixed so this does not happen again. Best wishes on the puppies.

Eight weeks is the best time for puppies to go to new homes. They should go to the vet at least once and had their first set of shots and been wormed. If you want a good idea how many puppies she is going to have, you can take her to the vet and get an ultra sound or an xray. You should get some prenatal care for her anyway. If puppies are raised properly you'll be lucky to break even. If you decide to breed your dog again, please do your research to make sure you are making the breed better, not a quick buck!

Wow, how irresponsible are you?
You need to take the dog to a VET. An x-ray is the only way to count puppies, and she needs vet care anyway to have a healthy pregnancy.
It is extremely illegal to sell any dog less than 8 weeks old. It's also devastating to the pups, they are not weaned or self sufficient before 8-10 weeks. And only a money-hungry jerk would charge extra just to sell them as Christmas presents. (Not to mention, 90% of all pets bought for Christmas end up in shelters within 6 months- is that where you'd like your dogs to end up?) And if you're lucky, your female might even survive to spend Christmas with you- many toy dogs being bred by people with no experience don't make it.
Be responsible, take your dog to the vet, get her checked out, and wait until several weeks after the holiday frenzy is over before you even advertise your pups for sale. Christmas pups suffer horrible fates- you don't want that for them.

to a poster above.. he bred 2 shih tzus not a poodle and a shih tzu, the dam's name is poochie not poodle lol
So to the question you cant LEGALLY sell them until 8 weeks they should be kept with mother until 9 or 10 and its wrong to charge extra because of a time period
