As a healthcare provider, the other question is : why 500 if 250 will take care of it? Truthfully, as providers we tend to find meds and doses that, with experience, we find to be effective so we use them repeatedly in most situations. If it doesn't work, we can increase the dose or change the med. Obviously, your dentist thought this would be effective for you. Why do you wonder?

It must have been what the MD thought will work. I,m sure you are taking it 3-4 x,s a day. So that should cover it. Over kill with antibotics has become a BIG medical issue, WE over use antibotics, then when really needed we have become immune to them, so less is more.

Maybe because your doctor/dentist thought that 250mg was a strong enough dose for you, given your age, body, health, etc.
