I have had orthodontic braces for 13 1/2 months. I will be getting them off anyday now. I have a tongue thrust, and I have known this since I got my braces. I have obviously not corrected the problem! When I get my braces off I will be getting a metal retainer with some sort of a "spike" to keep my tongue off my teeth (if you know a sit with any pics, please give a link). Anyway I want to know the easiest most effective way to corrective this.

Thanks!

Usually, tongue thrust therapy is ordered for those who have this problem. You might want to ask to be referred for it. The therapy involves exercises for the tongue, lips and jaw and usually takes a maximum of 6 months.

The appliance (metal retainer) will be very beneficial and will solve the problem IF you are diligent about wearing it. Unfortunately, many patients won't wear it. If you don't wear it and can't stop tongue thrusting, you will undo all the progress made by your braces.

Here is a site that has a photo of one such appliance. I have no idea if it will be the same as the one you will be getting or not (they can vary):

My son improve into an identical way. He improve into (nevertheless is) a extensive toddler and confirmed each of the indications of being waiting for solids around 4-5 months, so all of us started rice cereal. At maximum he could get a pair bites and something could get driven out of his mouth. i do no longer be conscious of if it improve into tongue thrust or if he in basic terms did no longer have the cling of a thank you to apply his tongue to get foodstuff to his throat and then swallow. He did no longer seem to love eating and favourite to nurse. around 6 months we started out to truly push the solids (in keeping with pediatrician's orders) and he started out to get the cling of it and consume further and further -- now he's 9 months and eats 3 tremendous foodstuff of solids on a daily basis alongside with further and further table foodstuff on a daily basis. save attempting and your toddler gets the cling of it at some point. prepare makes appropriate! It additionally would not injury to attempt a touch fruit (applesauce is easy to digest) just to be sure if it somewhat is the flavour she is reacting to or the feel, yet do no longer get her addicted to candy issues first or she'll by no ability consume the rest! stable success!
