First some history. I went to talk to this prof, say prof x, about aNOTHER prof I had some trouble with. Prof X is the head of the department. He basically denied my case but I was persistant. He recommended that I stop, but I kept going, went to his superior who agreed with me (eventually) so I 'won' the issue.
Now, this prof X is teaching a class I"m in. Today in class, I raised my hand to ask a Q. He looked right at me for several seconds, and then kept going. So before he changed slides I said "I have a question..." and i asked. His answer to me, in this class of over 200 people was, "well, you could see it that way, but it depends on how anal you want to be."
Was he calling me anal? Does he dislike me?

Here's the thing with human relations and communication - its very easy to go off on a tandem with a misunderstanding or confusion.

I can't tell you if he said that on purpose since I do not know him, do not know if he normally uses such phrases, if he's usually a cheerful person and was just being stuck up at this moment. Its possible that he was just being casual. He may have meant it, may not have. What you need to do maintian clear communication.

I suggest you take up this matter with Prof X, alone, in person and in a very non-threatening, calm way ask him to clarify his comment and if he doesn't, then tell him you were not happy with that and that an issue of the past with someone else should not be figure when he deals with you in front of the whole class. Also, be sincere and honest.

When you ask a question in class, you might want to think about whether the answer to the question will benefit your fellow students or not. If you're asking the question simply to argue with the professor or asking about something that's not relevant to the purpose of the lesson, maybe you could ask the professor informally after class, so as not to disturb your classmates.
