The needle. It's hollow so it will actually remove a small tube of skin. Yow!

Personally, I think the clamp hurt worse. Its a big shock because you don't know that its going to hurt--your just expecting the needle. They usually stick the needle through when your still "in shock" and you can't really feel it.
That's just my personal experience. Some people think both hurt really bad, and of course, some think that neither hurt that bad at all. For me, my bellybutton piercing was a 3 on a scale of 1-10 [10 being the most painful]. The healing was the worst part because I didn't clean it properly and it got really infected. You need to make sure that you clean it with a sea salt solution 2 times a day, and if the piercing shop reccommends something, use that, too. For a few days after you get it pierced, wear a belly shirt around to let the piercing breathe. That helps prevent infection.
If you've had your ear cartilage pierced, or know someone who has, I would say it hurts about the same as that.

Actually the clamp hurts more. The needle is very quick so it's not really anything but a pinch and the clamp holds your skin in hard and its on there for about a good minute. So yeah the clamp.

Well I've had mine pierced three times already and for me the pulling of the clamp hurt more then the needle. When you get it done they tell you to take a deep breath and breath out the pain, but the needle does hurt, it's just not that bad. Make sure you eat though because if you don't you risk blacking out from the adreline(sp?) and the food counter acts that. Jergens Antibacterial is really soft for new piercings (dial can be harsh) and if you get tea tree oil it will limit the scaring.

They didn't clamp mine, but the needle HURT!!!!! And mine ended up getting infected, because I wore a pair of pants that aggravated it just a few days after getting it done. I don't regret doing it, because I had wanted it done for about 10 years, and I love it now, but be SURE that you really want it done, and are willing to take the time to take care of it properly.

I didn't even feel it when I got mine done..no drinking no drugs but I didn't know she was done until she said so. I felt the clamp but that doesn't hurt. Had my tongue and other things done before and that was the easiest.
