i cant get my computer to show up on my tv. WHY???

VGA is R,G,B

Component on TVs expects Y,CbCr (Luma/Chroma differences)

Unless you have a converter in between, the cable itself is not going to help you much.

If you have a VGA - RCA cable, then it's one that somebody rigged up and is absolutely worthless. The video out of your computer is entirely different than the video that goes into your TV. Kinda like trying to make a Pratt & Whitney aircraft turbine engine work in your Honda Civic. Both are engines, but that's about it.
