While driving in 2WD,I wanna switch to 4WD.What excactly do I need to do? Do I stop the car temporarily,put it in Neutral and THEN use 4WD? Or can I just switch it on at anytime during driving?

You should be able to shift on the fly (while driving). 4x4 Jeep Cherokees from 1984-2001 had either Selec-Trac or Command-Trac systems which allow you to do so.

Your jeep should have on demand 4WD, Check a manual for sure before attempting to put it into 4WD. If it is on demand you can switch it while driving.

Yeah, you can shift on the fly. Use the link Breakdancefighter shows. Just make sure when you pull into 4 high on the fly that it definitely is in that gear. You will definitely know if you aren't! Now enjoy your Jeep!!
