Unfortunately very true :p I have 2 cats and they cough them up all the time- disgusting. they get from cleaning themselves. Cats tongues are rough like sandpaper and pick up lose fur when they lick themselves. They swallow the fur and after awhile it has to come back up = fur ball

Yes, they are and my cat has them frequently. When they wash themselves by licking, they swallow most of the fur that comes loose. If it's warm outside, they'll shed more and the hair is hard to digest. It builds up in their stomachs and they will often eat a rough grass to make themselves throw up and the fur comes up with it. They aren't really shaped like a ball, more like a log of fur and sometimes food and grass. They are no fun to clean either.

yes it's quite true i think.my cat coughed up a hairball only once though.it's not really in the shape of a ball..a mutated ball maybe..they make a hairball by grooming themselves with their tongues, which causes some of the fur to get stuck and eventually go down their throats.when it gets too big, a cat gags and coughs one up.

When you step on one in the middle of the night after your cat has regurgitated it, you know it's true. It's undigested hair that accumulates in the stomach from the cat licking itself. Eventually the cat vomits it up. It's worse with long-haired cats.

They don't 'make' furballs - they're not even balls at all, they're just clumps of fur. Cats ingest fur as they groom themselves, and they regurgitate it at times. Some cats do it more than others. It isn't like in the cartoons! :-)

cats get furballs when they groom themselves, the hair if often vomitted up as they can't digest it, my cats get lots of hairballs, eating grass helps them with this, usually they're not a problem but occasionally they get stuck in the intestines and have to be removed trhough surgery.

Cats do make fur balls from grooming themselves. They constantly groom and lick their paws and will ingest hair and eventually can accumulate enough to make them vomit or cause obstipation.

Its kinda nasty but its true.
When cats clean them selves the ingest their fur and it goes through their systems and (ewwww) meets poo thats inside them so the fur ball goes the other way and throws it up.
