i was wondering what it will take to create a control module(i call it that because i dont know what else to call it) that can move a actuator up at the push of a button or down at the push of a diffrent button. also light a indicater light to tell what postion that actuator is in I.E
:postion 1 full closed
:postion 8 full extented.

A bit of work, but it would be an excellent project. I think it's excellent that someone would be motivated to go out and learn the inner workings of something rather than just buying it.

Unless you are just interested in a DYI project, you would be covering ground that has already been covered. ( commonly referred to as "re-inventing the wheel" )
Do a search for linear actuators and look at what is available.
