Personally I'd go for the Air Force but you can join any branch when you're ready. It's good job security! And you get to travel. Give yourself some time and talk to others who did.

The Army, if you do join, will be the greatest experience you will have in your life. You get to meet a wide range of commited people. You get to travel (yes, that travel may be to Iraq or Afghanistan or whoever else we decide to fight) or even be stationed in places like Germany, Hawaii or Italy. The pay is great. Take me for example, I have maybe a year and a half of college, and i'm making about 22.83/hr just being in the Army. As a bonus I get a FAT raise every year. I say do it, when you turn 17 you can get a parental waiver and you can enlist. Be very careful as to which job you choose though. Medical field is always a good choice because then if you don't like being in the Army you can get out and have Medical experience.

You can when you are 17. Now is a good time to talk to a recruiter. My son is going to join when he turns 17 and I have to sign him in because he is not 18. My other son is 20 and is in Iraq and loves the Army. There are many jobs that are safer than kicking down doors in Baghdad and support roles are just as important. I had hoped that they would not join but I am very proud. Talk it over with your parents and tell them how you feel.

i was in the army. let me give you some good and bad points.

bad points:
mud. you will become much more intimate with mud, and there's no way around that.

you will always be treated like a baby by somebody ranked above you, no matter what rank you happen to make it to yourself.

you will find yourself in a frequent state of physical discomfort. you will have to work hard and long hours a lot of the time. you will not be able to escape freezing cold or burning heat. you will find yourself "in the field" a lot, i.e. being outdoors for weeks at a time regardless of weather conditions.

stay out of trouble. punishments can be especially harsh for those who don't conduct themselves in the proper manner.

now on to some of the good ones............

you shouldn't need to spend a lot of your money, meaning you should be able to stockpile a little nest egg.

it's a very respected occupation. your individual "stock" will rise.

you'll make some wonderful new friends, some of whom may last a lifetime.

you'll learn things about yourself, such as being able to do things you didn't think you'd be able to do. you'll feel a new sense of pride on the inside, and you'll have a newfound respect for yourself.

4 weeks of vacation a year to start off! that aint bad.

hope this helped!

If your smart and got your head on straight all the branches would love to have you, good people are hard to find these days.I think you will love the challenges and the travel all over the world and the pay is pretty good also even when your on vacation. And they do give you 30 days paid vacation a year, you wont find that in civilian life for sure.Good luck with whatever you decide.

Depends on what you want to do as far as a job. Figure that out and then look at the different services to see what they offer. Personally though, the Army has a lot of hang-ups right now but I still enjoy it.

To the person that said women are not on the front lines they are gladly mistaken we are in just as much danger as the males. I wish people would get a true understanding on that. As for your question, it is a personal one for ever soldiers views and experiences are different. I did not sign up until I was 20 when college was not going as I quite planned it. And for the person who said this was a suicide club what better way to die then for what I believe in and for my family rather then to get killed in the dangerous city were I am from. At least the Army has taught me how to shoot back, gave me body armor, pays me consistantly for my work and give me free higher education and allows me to travel the world. We do give up alot to serve our country but the benefits always out weigh the sacrifices. I don't pay taxes while I am here so it allows me to save money and enroll in different savings plans. But if you truly want to joing thoroughly research everything from being Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard to what MOS you want. And do whats best for you. Don't let anyone, anyone push you into a job you don't want to do. And you don't have to cut your hair. What ever choices you make you are the one responsible for them. I hope I have help and I will glady answer anymore for you. Hope I have helped.

No, I am in the air force, which many from the other branches call the chair force and one of my friends just recently died in Iraq. Now his wife and children are without there father and Husband. He was only 26 years old. Now there are many people who join and love it. It's not for everyone and I wouldn't want anyone in my family to join. But if you must I think the Air Force is a better choice. Just do research before you decide.

I think that it's would be ok. Since you are 16 you will probly be confronted with many recruiter. DO NOT LISTEN. They will tell you all the glamour of the army. Get some one who has been there to tell you the good and the bad. Then decide.

you are obviously still young and should get your studies out of the way. attend college first than decide what is best for you a civilian job or the military. but do not throw yourself into a situation just because of money. being in the military is not some regular job it requires a lot from you. many people are joing the arm forces and within the year are being kicked out of the military and their lives are ruin by a dishonorable discharge.
