Medicines for what? What is the brandname and what were they? Many are available in generic forms or from mail order.

You can always shop around via the yellow pages, but consider that veterinarians have a doctorate degree and that medications are not that different from vet to vet in terms of cost. Owning an animal is not inexpensive. Have you considered Pet Insurance to diffract your cost. Be careful about using costs as your deciding factor because in the end you will get what you pay for.

It depends what country and area you're in! Just ring around your local vets and ask what their consult fees are, and chose the cheapest. You can also get a prescripton from the vets to buy drugs online, where they are much cheaper. But you need to see a vet first to find out what treatment your animal needs - and it's usually things like blood tests and xrays that make bills expensive, not the medicines!

Call your local Humane Society and see if they work with vets in the area and can recommend one. Some shelters also have vet vouchers in emergency situations so you can still get what your animal needs now even if you don't have the funds.

petco! i went with my doberman last weekend and omg did i save! less than half, if not more! its quick, easy and cheap. they do everything except for surgeries. 2 days every month. stop by your nearest petco and ask. i actually found out that my vet charges more than the average...its insane, the prices just keep going up, why? who knows. its roughly 15-20 per item, 10-30min wait. so bring a friend so you can alternate. one can shop for petbeds or toys, while the other waits. ^.^

Try your local animal shelter. They usually have an on-site vet.
