My indoor/outdoor cat, Lance, has been acting very odd for the last 4 or 5 months. This summer he has been killing at least one small animal/day--at times 2 or 3. We live in a suburb, and they are usually mice or moles, and sometimes birds and recently chipmunks. He has never killed at this rate before.

His killings have grown increasingly violent: he leaves diembowled mice on the doormat, and today I have home to a mouse nose (yes, nose) on the drive way.

He has lost a lot of weight, too, even though he eats a lot (unlike my other cat of the same age, who is a little fat).

He has just gotten weirder. When he's indoors he is VERY clingy. He will not leave you alone and is always climbing on us. He used to be affectionate, but now he's just weird.

He also has taken to peeing on the washing machine, recently, and he never had a peeing problem before.

We're wondering if he might be ill, perhaps with a parasite he caught outdoors. Would this explain his odd change in behavior?

He could well have caught a parasite from eating all that prey, which could make him ill, but not change his behaviour. If your cat eats this amount of prey it's very important t worm him regularly as it's highly likely he will catch worms. He has lost weight, so a worm infestation would be the most likely thing.

The rest of the symptoms sound behavioural really, and there could be any number of reasons for this. You know your cat best - if you're worried he's ill, take him to a vet to be checked. You need to go there anyway to get him wormed - it's just a tablet every three months (or perhaps more often if he's that prolific a hunter)

My cat was a great mouser/bird catcher for about the first ten years of her life - she used to just leave one little white organ outside the back door and eat the rest, never did identify that organ but it was the one she left everytime!!

I don't think the hunting has anything to do with whether hge is ill or not. What concerns me is he is eating alot anbd losing weight. This could be something like diabetes or hyper t as well as other things. Is your cat drinking alot more then usual? If so please email me

I would take him to vet and explan to them what you've told us. It's possible he could have caught something outside from some of the rodents or other ferral cats.

I would take him to the vet and get him checked out. I may be that he is lacking something in his diet that could be throwing his balance off.

Take him in and get the vet to check him out sounds like he picked up something and it's affecting his brain and normal responses...He may be turning farel (wild) from being left out so much...he's sounds like he's going back to basic instincts.
