would their Roman equivalents = the Snorks (an obvious, piece of crap rip-off of the Smurfs)?

IOW - Greek gods:Smurfs::Roman gods:Snorks?

Discuss.

Star - So if the Roman gods are Fraggles, what would that make the Greek gods on which they're based? Muppets?

I think if you only see the Roman gods as rip-offs of the Greek gods you'll completely misunderstand Roman culture. It's a tribute to the Greek imagination that their myths and philosophies were so readily transmitted to the surrounding cultures - including and especially Rome. But when you look at how the Romans CHANGED the myths, or more accurately how they emphasized some things rather than others, then you'll start to understand Rome.

The best example I can give is that the Greek deities were split between the gods/goddesses of the city (polis) and the gods/goddesses of the wild places. The Roman deities on the other hand were largely pastoral, agricultural, the gods/goddesses of hearth and home.

If I come up with a good analogy, I'll check back in. Peace to you. (You could go with Greek gods = Muppets, Roman gods = Sesame Street, though that goes astray too).
