1) Catholic priests do not "take stands"; they profess the teachings of the Church per the Magisterium (the teaching body of the Church)
2) The dichotomy of creation vs. evolution is a Protestant problem argued by different Protestant denominations. The Catholic Church does not view science as inherently at odds with faith. On the contrary, when we study and learn the processes of evolution as well as other dynamics of God's creation we seek to know Him more abundantly in the fullness of Truth that is His Glory! Faith working integrally with reason underscores Catholic teaching.

Prayer of praise offered at each Easter vigil Mass:

"Almighty and eternal God, you ceated all things in wonderful beauty and order. Help us now to percieve how wonderful is the new creation by which in the fullness of time you redeemed your people through the sacrifice of our Passover, Jesus Christ." *

Even the Catholic Church has accepted the fact that evolution occurred.... they have no problem with it at all.
