For me, it's Buffy and Coupling. Both are excellent sources for apt quotations for just about any occasion.

Ok, Coupling is mostly an excellent source for quotations about sex, but whatever. The character of Jeffrey has no equal and likely never will. How can you not love a character who accidentally told a woman he collects women's ears in a bucket?

I use Coupling quotes on my answering machine, and I often find corollaries between scenes from Buffy and real life.

What are your TV gods?

My answering machine message: (It doesn't make sense as a message, but I don't care): "Why not, why not an **** beach? There are many dedicated breast beaches... Fact is some women don't have large breasts, and they're people too. Maybe they'd like the freedom to show us their bottoms instead of their breasts. Maybe they'd enjoy a more flexible **** friendly beach that says..."Hey so long as you've got cleavage, who cares which way it's facing?"

I used to have: "When God made the ****, he didn't say, 'Hey, it's just your basic hinge, let's knock off early.' He said, 'Behold ye angels, I have created the ****. Throughout the ages to come, men and women shall grab hold of these, and shout my name!"

Jessica - I'm totally with you! I can't watch The Body without crying, and I get upset watching the 2d or 3rd last ep. when everyone turns on her (those ingrates!)

And Gilmore Girls - I'd just started watching last year and now it's over!

I mourn Buffy to the point that my husband and I have Buffy marathons starting at the finale of the new tv show season and we watch all seven seasons every year between May and September. Lots of people don't understand my love of Buffy. No matter how many times I watch it, I still cry when Tara dies. I sob when Angel leaves. I weep for hours after Spike sacrafices himself. I also mourn Charmed b/c I love the fact that there was finally a show out there about witches who were good and didn't try to hurt everyone. They were the first successful good witches since Samantha.
I mourn Full House...No other show ever made me thankful that my family wasn't dorky.
I mourn Will and Grace...I became very emotionally attached to those characters and when they concluded it broke my heart.

I cried for hrs when Buffy ended, I love that show so much, I still watch the reruns faithfully. I helped campaign against cancellation of Angel(to no avail). I miss Charmed, but I have to say I was angry at WB for keeping Charmed in production and not Angel. I felt like Angel could of gone in any direction, with the transformation of Fred, the resources at Wolfram and Hart, there were a lot of possibilities, but Charmed just seemed to be going over the same things and it was getting old. I also miss a show that was only on a short time, American Gothic. I don't know if they stopped making Absolutely Fabulous, because I have not been able to find it in my area. the show that is in my top 3 is La Femme Nikita, she was a much better agent than Sidney Bristo.

I'd say Babylon 5, but it completed its projected run, did so famously, and is coming back with new stories.

So rather, I'll turn an eye to the shows that were never given their fair due.

Firefly, Farscape, Arrested Development, Dead Like Me, Freaks and Geeks, and Carnivale.

And finally, I'm mourning Battlestar Galactica. This is a preemptive mourning, since the show is ending prematurely, I feel.

There was a show when I was a kid that I was a huge fan of...it didn't last long, and I was so depressed when it went off the air. I sort of wish I could see some episodes of it now to see if I'd still like it as much as I did as a kid. It was called "Tales of the Gold Monkey", and starred Stephen Collins as an "Indiana Jones"-type character.

OHHH! And I see some others mentioned "Mystery Science Theater 3000"! That was the best. I have a bunch of them that I taped on my VCR years and years ago.

And another one, a brilliant show from England called "Blackadder." (Particularly "Blackadder the Third") It starred Rowan Atkinson and Hugh Laurie. (Of "House, M.D.")

Coupling was a little gem I agree there... What quotes do you have on you answering machine? I'm intrigued now!
I miss 'This Life' despite the questionable 10-year retrospective... Twas a cool show.
I miss 'Friends' too... It may have suffered from over-exposure somewhat, but It's my generations' classic.
(perhaps) sadly... My fave show that's gone to the big TV studio in the sky has to be Dawson's Creek! Say what you will but I frickin loved that show. THE best drawn-out love triangle in TV drama history. Fact!

"The Critic"...one of the best animated series of all-time.
NYPD Blue
Walker, Texas Ranger
King of Queens
Martial Law
Playmakers...was a series on ESPN that was very well-done but ESPN pussed out on running it for a second season as the NFL whined about it.

And I'm preparing to go into mourning when the Shield finishes its final season next spring.

"My So-called Life" was a great show. I really miss that. I also miss "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and Lifetime's "1-800-Missing" with Vivica A. Fox and Mark Consuelos. That was reallly good. Had the most horrible series ending ever.

We don't have TV anymore, but I do miss these shows

M*A*S*H*
St. Elsewhere
Whose Line is it anyway? (is that show still on)
Designing Women
The Red Skelton Show (refused to do adult humor, but was absolutely hysterical)

The original Saturday Night Live TV show (with Gilda Radner, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Larraine Newman, John Belushi, and all of the others).

Oh! My ultimate favorite show of all time is Buffy, I was sitting in my chair screaming at the TV when it ended... it was supposed to go on forever! :P
Other ones that I have loved... Charmed (when Prue was in it... not Paige), Angel, Alias (Wasn't a fan of last season though), OC (When Marissa was alive), Veronica Mars (started last season and instantly fell in love and bought the first two seasons), Dark Angel, ROSWELL, Dead Like Me, and Birds of Prey (It was only on for like half a season, but I was entertained!)
Oh so many shows I ahve loved and lost! :P
