Everyone meditates during the course of a day, they may dwell on a particular problem or the wonder of a loved one, meditation is simply the act of thinking with a singleness of mind.
Religious meditation is also like this but because it is directed towards God it is the higher form of meditation.

I think everyone does it in one form or another. The purest form is to just be quiet... and the deepest practices bring on an experience that is very similar to that of waking up in the morning (without an alarm clock)
You know, that blissful state which is just after awareness comes but before the worries of the day start flooding in. In my understanding, this is the purest and most innocent form of meditation... when you are open to your own LIFE.... on the level of life itself.
People who become very familiar with stillness are able to perceive things that are unknown to the rest of us... sort of like "revelation," or in Eastern terms "cognition." Be still and know that I am God... I think it is in the Psalms.
It's a very interesting subject... to learn more about stillness and that kind of thing, this on line resource explains it very well.

I have tried to a lot. It has never worked as well for me as it seems to for others. I prefer to get myself out in the Mountains and sit on a Rock or a Log.

I meditate on Jesus. He is the one who lead, and guides my life. The one who Blesses me, and supplies my needs. The one who saved me, and keeps me.
