I'm not sure. I don't mind contributing. When I give it makes me feel good and in turn I hope it makes someone else feel good. It's not up to me if they are not on the up and up. It's on their conscience. It's something they have to live with. If you are so down and out that you have to like and nickel and dime people, you still have to look at yourself in the mirror. Eventually, you won't like what you see. Iff your dad wants to contribute to the armed forces, he might want to research and give to organizations like the USO or something he knows is legitimate.

Donielle: There are many scam artists out there. There are also many legitimate Veteran's Groups. In between are for profit companies that contract to support the contributions for Veterans groups.

I recommend that donations be made directly to the organization, such as the USO, VFW or American Legion.

DAV is an organization that uses one of the go between companies and while the organization has a noble purpose, I refuse to give my 90% of my money to a middle man.

When in doubt, contact the state veteran's board, the VA or the VFW/American Legion.

Thank you for supporting our Troops.

Macaroni: if the sign said "EX" marine, he never was one. No jarhead will ever use that prefix.

Some of them are, and some are not. I would advise doing some research of the people asking for contributions before sending anything.

How funny, I saw a sign at a stop light today where one of the guys wrote "ex marine, need money". I thought to myself, I wonder if he is a real marine. With the virtual 0% unemployment rate in this town, I suspect they are scamming.

I don't rust ANY solicitations made via mail or phone. There are just too many scams out there.
