I'm sure its dependent state by state.
But in California, the gun/rifle can't be loaded and the ammunition must be stored in a different place (eg: gun in car, ammo in trunk). I also believe that the gun/rifle is supposed to stored be in plain sight (eg: gun rack in window).

Yes, you can have a gun in the car. It can't be loaded, nor can you have the ammunition with the gun. In other words, you can keep a box of bullets in the glove box, but not a loaded clip on the seat.

In Missouri as long as gun is visible can be in car and loaded>> hand gun on seat
If you have concealed-carry permit, can be concealed in car or on person > loaded

The US Constitution says "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon"

You cannot carry around a gun unless you have a SPECIAL license... NOT JUST A GUN LICENSE. If you have a regular gun license you can only bring the gun to a range or hunting. you cannot carry it around.
