Sounds pretty restrictive. I feel sorry for her but it's her life..
EDIT: I knew someone was going to say something stupid about the LDS Church being a cult and Joe, you didn't disappoint me!
"public or secretive" Some SACRED things are not open to the public because they would not understand. In general we are totally open to the public!
"brainwash their followers" Yea right, where did you get that lie?
"central leader" excuse me but how is that cultish - so Catholics are a members of a cult? Not a chance, Joe!
"strongly resist their followers leaving" they can leave if they want to. We don't stop anybody.
"fanatical loyalty" I think the word you are looking for is true believer!
We are not "dangerous" I resent your LIES about Mormons being a cult!

oh yeah, cult cult cult
cult is as cult does. I believe that any faith that claims to have a monopoly on The Truth is a cult. Any faith that is secretive about their finances, that puts strange cultural limitations on their adherants, and eschews contact with those outside the "fold" is a cult.
Uh, sorry, but there is no easy way to talk a person down from a cult. The best way to do it is by studying what they believe and asking questions. Nice, appropriate questions. I have done this successfully dozens of times---e-me with some specifics and I will gladly guide you in this---but be warned, this takes time---and patience---and humility---and love. do you have what it takes? I am here for you---Brian

If you are a troll, then yes you are wrong (chances are, you are a gigantic troll). However, I'll entertain the possibility that you are open minded and have thought about what you just posted. Bu then again; you can refuse to believe in that "crap," but calling it pagan and a cult is narrow minded. Which of course goes against your assertion that you know how to think outside the box.

There are several definitions of cults, but generally you could consider LDS as a cult but you could also consider it as a religion in it's own right. The things I use to determine the difference are Are they public or secretive? Do they seem to brainwash their followers? Is there a central leader that is personally revered more than anyone/thing else. Do they strongly resist their followers leaving? Do they seem to have a fanatical loyalty.
There are probably better tests but these cover the basics and try to identify whether a cult/group is dangerous. It would be helpful if you could post the name of the religion/cult/group. The can't eat pepperoni is really weird.

All religions are cults. Some are big, some are small, some are dictatorial, some are liberal, some are weird, some are more normal sounding.
No makeup is not unusual in many religions and it's certainly biblical. No pepperoni is a bit odd but there are major religions which rule out major categories of meat entirely. Many religions believe you should only date within your religion. A lot of religions that believe in heaven think that they are the only ones going. The only weird thing is the Florida trip.
I would advise both of you to give up your religion and accept that there is no supernatural Santa making up these sorts of rules and rewarding the good little boys and girls who follow them. I suspect that neither of you will follow my advice.

Fundamentalists Christians frown on makeup.
They also tell you only to associate with people inside the church.
They typically think that only their immediate church is going to Heaven.
Mormons have many of the same characteristics. So do Southern Baptists-only non church "friends" are to be people to whom your ministering and bringing to God.
Sounds like she's in a relatively mainstream but very arrogant church--so sure, lets call it a cult. The only actual difference is that a religion is recognized by the IRS whereas a cult is not.

Well "cults" by definition are "wrong", because we only use the word to describe something we don't like. Of course, whether or not a given group is a cult is another story. Nobody in a cult actually refers to their group as a cult.

A false cult is anything that does not teach the death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus. Only salvation, through the Blood of Jesus is what gets you to Heaven.

I think it is, to some extent.
I mean, would God really care if a woman wore makeup? Or if she ate pepperoni? I've eaten pepperoni before, I believe in God and nothing bad happened to me.
Some priests try to control the masses by doing things that way.
She shouldn't have to do anything if she's uncomfortable. Some people need to stop letting other people think for them and think for themselves.
