i have always wanted to work at either of these places [prefferrably overseas[. and now that i am of age i would like to know what prerequisites must i cover to be eligible. such as, what colleges should i attend, what should i study, what kind of things do i have to know; and things of that nature. that would help a great deal because in a few months i am moving to london and i would love to get a head start on making this happen.

Generally, there are two ways to work at an embassy/consulate, and two ways to work at the United Nations.

Embassy/Consulate: If you already have your own legal basis to live and work overseas, either as a citizen, or legal resident, and you speak/read/write the local language as well as the language of the hiring country, then the embassy/consulate may hire you as a Foreign Service National (local hire). Otherwise, you would apply directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Department of State, or any agency represented at the embassy/consulate.

United Nations: Apply either directly to the United Nations, and be paid by the United Nations, or be seconded by your own government to work there, and be paid by your government.

Attend the best college you can afford, and get the highest grades possible; engage in outside activities that reflect well on social skills and government/international affairs; learn at least one foreign language fluently; arrange an internship with a government agency; and avoid any activities that will blacken your reputation - alcohol/drug abuse, bad credit, association with the wrong crowd/organizations, and any arrests.
