I wouldn't worry about it because this is very common behavior. My first golden, who just recently passed, always had a baby (stuffed toy) in his mouth. Of the two I have now, one always has a tennis ball and the other always has a bone.
As far as insecurity goes, don't take that behavior as a sign. Your golden is just being a dog.

I have a female German Shepherd that almost always has a ball in her mouth. If not the ball some sort of toy is in her mouth. I think she just likes to have it near by. I too think of this behavior as the toy being some sort of a security blanket.

My dog does the same thing. She has a ball that she carries around and if it isn't that she has a stuffed "Donkey" from the "Shrek" movie. It is actually a dog toy and I have looked everywhere for another but can't find any. She has this one worn out.
Perfectly normal...and cute!

Labs and retrievers have a natural oral fixation. They will carry pretty much anything they get their mouths on around. My neighbor takes his for a walk and the dog holds his folded leash in his mouth for the entire walk. Either that or he is hinting that you really should take him to the park and play fetch with him!

All my Golden have done this. It goes back to their hunting/retrieving skills.
It's fine don't worry about it at all.
It is just their need to have something in their mouths, nothing more. Not a sign of being insecure at all.

nah. its not a sign of insercurity. they're just showing off what they have, and they're most likely trying to get you to play with them. my dog walks around with his toys in his mouth all the time.

Golden Gal? My folks Golden does this too, he also snuggles up with it to sleep. Then again he is also afraid of his own shadow.

My labs do the same thing. It's the retriever in them. They are all happiest when they have something in their mouths.
