No it's not bad for your dog, (it's best if you use extra virgin olive oil though) it's helpful if your dog sheds alot or has very dry skin! I got this tip from my vet.

olive oil is fine, extra virgin olive oil would be best. B/c its an oil it can act as a laxative so you need to very slowly work them up to a full dose. I am not sure what breed your dog is so I cannot tell you how much. There are better oils, coconut oil is a great preventative oil and has some awesome healing qualities.

Why do you feel a need to add the oil? what are you hoping to gain? If his coat is dry or his skin is flaking, it may be a food issue not a skin issue. If you have corn in your food, either corn meal or ground corn than it may be that he has an allergy to corn, humans do not digest corn so it reasons to be that dogs will not either. The first few ingridients on a food should be meat, NOT a meat by prouct, not rice or corn those are fillers and useless. Also if you feed a food with as much meat and as little filler as possible, your dog will poop less and the smell will not be so offensive. Its expenisve is what most people say, but what those people do not know is that b/c there are next to or no fillers at all is that the dog eats less, so really its more costly to feed the junk from the groecry store, and more cost effective to buy a good quality food.

While I cannot tell you which foods will work for your dog I can tell you that my dogs eat "canidae",

merrick
solid gold
Innova evo

those 5 brands of food are all of excellent quality. Some more expensive than others but you can check into that,

My dogs have all gotten oil added to their food daily for as long as I've had dogs - dry dog food doesn't have enough oil in it to keep a dog's skin and coat in good condition. And olive oil is a really good choice.

It's not bad, I just wonder why you feel you need to do this.
If your dog's coat is brittle, or skin dry, you really need to feed a better quality food, not supermarket stuff, but a good quality like Canidae or something with meat listed as the first ingredient and no corn meal fillers.

If you do supplement with olive oil, make sure your dog doesn't get diarrhea from the oil or get too fat - it is very high calory. Better to feed a good quality dry every single day.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU8Rn

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

If you HAVE to add an oil to your dogs food for his skin/coat.... please don't add an oil that is from plant matter. Add a good quality salmon oil for the Omega 3's, since this is what your dog needs for a good coat.

Make sure you are feeding a good diet, and add a little Salmon oil. I'd stay away from any plant based oil for my dogs.

Here are a few good brands:

Timberwolf Organics and Kronch

lain vegetable oil has more of the fats that will help the dogs coat, I use it and the dogs have soft shiny coats. There are products for the dogs coats that have cod liver oil and are good for their Heart too.
