Before you talk madd sh*t out your mouth, consider the meaning of the name and understand the substance of the origin of the name and not it's religious context. Before you judge me, look up the meaning of the name to see what it's meaning. Here is the meaning defined by Wikepedia Online Encyclopedia: Lucifer is a Latin word meaning "light-bearer" (from lux, lucis, "light", and ferre, "to bear, bring"), a Roman astrological term for the "Morning Star", the planet Venus. The word Lucifer was the direct translation of the Septuagint Greek heosphoros, ("dawn-bearer"); (cf. Greek phosphoros, "light-bearer") and the Hebrew Helel, ("Bright one") used by Jerome in the Vulgate, having mythologically the same meaning as Prometheus who brought fire to humanity.

It's a beautiful name. If you are not a christian. Actually Lucifer was the gretaest angel, and most loved by God. So he was a good guy. And then he turned bad coz he envied God and wanted his power. Actually I think it is a methaphor.. Anyway that doesn't matter. That shows us that even angels are not perfect. Well, nothing is, except him. If you are not a christian it's ok, but if you are a baptised christian also a believer it means you are defying God.

Quite right; but Jerome translated the Greek, which clearly referred to Satan, into the Latin word Lucifer - and he did mean it to refer to Satan.

We just had a boy. I wnated to name him Lucifer Jesus Mohamed.

My wife shut that down for some reason.

Then I wanted to name him after Galileo - she nixed that too.

We finally settled on Nicolaus - as in Copernicus.

So we now call him Nico for short.

I think the meaning of the name is beautiful, however you have to accept the fact that the name has negative connotations in our society and a child with the name would undoubtedly be picked on for it.

Nothing wrong with it. There was even a Bishop Lucifer in the 4th century, I understand.

Yes we know it means light bringer and morning star and such - but its also the name of the devil.

Who would be dumb enough to name their kid that? Don't be silly - give him a name that won't get him beaten up on the playground.

I think it is perfect if his parents are Satanists. What a positive reflection of their beliefs. Remember, he will have to live with this name for the rest of his life and it could prove detrimental to him. Who would likely hire someone with a name that can be associated with lying, dishonesty, and all manner of evil. Please think your decision carefully. It truly is the name of the one who rebelled against his God.

It's a pretty word, but you'd be stupid to do something like that to a child. Would you give him the middle name "Judas?"
