Ireland has much more space, is a much friendlier and accepting country and I love it.
England is over populated, too crammed, the people keep themselves to themselves and crime is getting out of hand.
And obviously, the other differences are, the accents.

I think, from living in both, that they are a lot more different than people think, and its not just our roads are Kilometres and currency is € in Ireland.
the sense of humour is very different, the Irish being completely irreverent, anyone can and does get a slagging.
In Ireland the family is the most important, in England its more couples. And we (the Irish) don't get wound up or as upset by events in the media as much as the English, this can, or cannot be a good thing at times.
But mostly everyone talks to anyone in Ireland. Anywhere, from the pub, to the shops, to standing at the bus stop.
but the English are more accepting of differences in culture than the Irish!

We're a bit more pro-Europe in Ireland.
Our road distance and speed signs are in kilometres.
Some people here can speak the Irish language, while most people in England can speak English.
We have a much lower population.
We have a higher cost of living.
We have jobs coming out our ears at the moment.
We have U2 and the UK have Chas and Dave. :P

I'm Irish, but have lived in England, and the biggest difference is people talk to strangers in Ireland. The women on the tills in supermarkets look at what you buy, and ask if its nice, or tell ye, they tried it and its lovely, etc etc.
Also the sense of humour is more self effacing and also more wicked, everything is fair game for a joke, and what the Polish people I work with find totally amazing is we ask questions and answer with another question, and never really say any answer.
eg. how are ye, ?
Ah, there ye are, how's yourself?
weather gonna to change?
well you never know!!
And family is still a big thing in Ireland

I am English but now live in Ireland. From a bus driving point of view the main difference is the tractors. Tractors seem to own the roads here and they are a major hazard to all road users especially bus drivers.
Everything else about Ireland though is better than UK.
I'm staying!

Irish rain is colder. Ireland is greener. The Irish are friendlier. The Irish accent is lovely compared to scouse etc. Euro in Ireland, sterling in England. Transport is crap in Ireland, crapper in England...need I go on?

The population - in the Republic of Ireland it's just over 4 million, it's much more than that in England.
Less population means more green areas in Ireland, but also inferior infrastructure.
Irish have much madder sense of humour, and we love Monty Python ... who happen to be English but hey, nobody's perfect.
Much greater appreciation of poetry and literature in Ireland than in England, I think, plus a much greater penchant for storytelling and singing ....
And it's not just the Dubs who love to sing either ....

They are two Separate countries.Its that simple.
Britain has a Monarchy, a royal family hence its called the united kingdom.
Ireland is a republic with a president.
We have different cultures, but geographically we are similar.

Disregarding History and speaking of the people who live in these Islands today, I see one huge difference between the Irish and the English. That difference is singing. The Irish, especially the Dubs, love to sing. So, at the end of every occasion (sometimes all the way thro!) be it wedding, funeral or whatever, we will have a sing-song. The English just don't do this and their occasions are the worse for it. Vive l'difference!

I'm so sorry that so many of my countrymen and woman have chosen to answer your question with such predictable pathetic racist taunts towards the English.
Empire - to suggest that England wants to rule the world is outdated by about 60 years.
Those who have mentioned the IRA - you are some fools for being pro drug dealing murderers of children.
Population - it is true there are a lot of people in England, about 45million I think.Remember though that 90% of the people live on 10% of the land so it does not feel crowded. The towns are much bigger than those in Ireland however.
As an Irishman who once lived in England for 20 years, my personal view is thus.
England has better beer with a choice of 100s of types whereas Ireland only has a dozen or so.
Ireland has a better focus on family and social life. England is more advance technolically speaking. Ireland life is closer related to church than in England it seems. English people do'nt seem to have a sense of identity in the way the Welsh and Scots do.
Just my view !
