People (and, at times, their greed) are the root of all evil.
To say money is the root of all evil is to distance ourselves from the issue and shift blame. Were it not for humans, money would mean little in the universe. Thus, it is clearly people that are the problem.

The actual quote is "the love of money is the root of all evil". It sure is the cause of most of what's wrong in the US of A.
Intollerance of other's religion is my vote for number one reason for demise.
Lack of proper treatment of the environment number two (ie. we'll melt the icecaps and create another Venus and make it unliveable).
Finally greed and the increasing gap between rich and poor in the world could lead to civil unrest enough to end the wrold as we know it.

LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money in and of itself is just a tool. Exchange of money for goods and services is an energy exchange.
Unfortunately, greed is rampant, those who already have more than they could ever use want more and many of them won't be happy until they have it ALL.
Then there are some like Bill Gates, bless his geeky soul.

Nope to the first. Some evil things have nothing to do with money. People commit crimes of passion, for instance; you may covet a friend's beautiful hair ...etc
Yes, to the second. People's consumerism i.e. buying things you don't need and thus fuelling its production...etc will cause the environment to fall apart as is already the case. Plenty of people have died because of polluted water, polluted air and a lack of resources...etc. This is because of capitalism.
