The AP had a story today (it's currently on Yahoo News) that althought the demonstration in Jena yesterday was well attended and had people marching, signs, and people holding clinched fists in the air that was the only similarity with the civil rights marches of the 60's----in the reporter's own words----there were no police dogs and firehoses. In fact, one of the people attending the march said it was a lot of fun.
Since police dogs weren't turned loose on the demonstators and firehoses weren't turned on them, and there were no beatings by the police, is this a sign that race relations in the South have improved

Race relations have impoved in the South. The national public may not notice it, but if you live here it is easy to see. We all pretty much get along. Yeah, we have our racial problems now and then, but then what part of the country doesn't have problems sometimes. Its when non-Southerners get involved that the issue blows out of proportion. One a daily basis, we all get along. We have to live here, we have to live with one another. And we do.

"Race relations" is a ridiculous term nowadays, there are very few people of pure blood anywhere. Most of the younger generation don't much care about race unless they live in some small town like Jena where it's actually an issue. But for the rest of us, race isn't an issue anymore for any reason.
I have neighbors of all kinds around me ... there's the Hispanic fellow that owns his own landscaping company (reminds me, I need to ask his rates) and his wife watches kids during the day; there's the black couple two doors down that just had a set of twins and oh-my-goodness are they precious! There's the Muslim family and all 600 of their relatives (well it seems like it anyway) that love to party in their backyard on weekends. There's the drag queen that lives across the street who makes me laugh every time he backs his truck out the driveway ... it's this tiny little Toyota truck that has a back-up beeper lol. We always like to see what dress he'll wear on Easter.
The point is, these are my people, this is where I come from, and this is not new. We've been like this for decades.

actually now because when democrats controlled it they preferred the black man as slaves rather than as free citizens,democrats/liberals always fail to mention or take responsibility for their own past but are fast to judge and balme others, when the south left the union over keeping slaves being one of the main reasons they were democrats but they always fail to mention that, maybe that is why some liberals are even pushing the idea to not teach children our nation's history until after the civil war to hide their past and to also keep the kids from learnig the reason and principles for which our nation was born from and founded upon, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, the independnt spirit and individualism, the governments true purpose and role to serve the people, instead of the liberal plan of less freedoms,no individuality or sense of independence, but rather a government that controls every aspect of you're life and a govrnment set up to keep a few liberal elites in power while controlling the rest, liberals gladly give up freedoms if it means they get another entiltlement from the government, they will turn this into a nation where we will not do anything for ourselves or achieve success, just serve the state and the party.

Of course they have improved. It's a gradual process, and I don't think racial competence is as good in the south as in the north, but race relations gradually becomes a more and more archaic subject of tension in this country, especially as overt racism is regularly criticized, demonized and criminalized (as it should be).
There is the idea, however, that southern conservatives have simply shifted their hateful tendencies away from race and toward homosexuality.

In Arkansas they have. I am guessing that we have more black racists than white. Nolan Richardson would disagree. But then, he is a racist too.
