I plan on moving out of my moms house next summber when I'm 19. I'm going to be going to school in San Diego. I know MOST apartment renters require a credit check. I do not have a credit card but would to get one to establish credit. My mother is totally against me getting a credit card because of the mistakes she made a teen. I've learned from her the kind person not to be when it comes to money. If anyone has any advice on San Diego and/or my credit problem...help please!

Credit cards are easy to get. That has never been a problem because credit companies want your money. They also like to prosecute you if you don't pay them, and if you are not responsible, then you can rack up the dollars into thousands owed in absolutely no time since they also rack up your interest for what you borrow just as fast. If you want to show responsibility, then I suggest you open a bank account which also helps your credit scores and get their credit card that comes with the account. It serves two purposes. If you accidentally overdraw they just put that money on your credit card so it protects you. Plus, you can have all your payments paid right off your bank checking account so you never miss a payment. The key will be to SET SOME GOALS FOR YOURSELF THAT YOU PROMISE TO KEEP and then KEEP THEM. If you remember the three S's you will not go wrong and get into trouble:

**SET a price you will not go over in charging until you go back to $0 amount owed on that amount.

**SAVE a certain $ amount before you charge and then charge that amount and pay it off in one lump sum or with as large a paymennt as you can so that you have NO interest and your credit scores will soar.

**SEND double or tripple payments back for the monthly fee until it is all paid off and don't recharge until you get it back to $0.

If you do something like that, you will never have to file bankrupsy for being so far into debt you cannot get out of it or have to call a credit counselor in order to get out of debt. Those things will kill your credit. You do not have to charge mega money to have good credit. Good credit is reached by being sensible with your money so that you can charge and pay it off quicker than the company sets the time limit down, and also by keeping regular, on time payments that never go under what they expect from you. Also, the best way to keep the interest down on credit cards is to keep them at least 3 months ahead in payments. The more you can pay, the more goes on premium and the less goes on interest.
