My dog (A 1 year old female beagle) has had this thing lately were she has been eating the carpet. She actually stands in the corner and pulls strands of carpet and eats them. Recently she has been eating the bathroom rug too. I was just wondering what this is about. She has a bowl of food always filled that she can get to. She has plenty of of water as well. Is this a vitamin defisancy? Is there a reason for this?

Don't let your dog eat strings of carpet.
She doesn't know it's bad for her. It can clog her intestines and cause illness. This happened to my cat. Luckily we were able to fix mine with a laxative, but if it gets bad, surgery may required.

Sounds like your dog is still chewing from puppyhood. There are sprays you can buy at petstores, such as Bitter Apple, that may help. The best option for you though is to get a crate so that your dog is not left unnattended. Your dog should quit this behavior fairly soon, probably over the next 6 months. Hang in there and the problem will resolve itself over time. It is not a vitamin deficiency or anything complicated. Your dog is simply enjoying pulling the fray from the carpet and chewing, possibly out of boredom. Get some chew toys to keep her time better occupied.

Years ago shadow(now past) did that.At the time she was around a year old.And it cost me a few hundred bucks because it became knotted in her stomach. She eventually stopped,But what I did was put some no chew spray on the places she would chew and eat.!5 years ago there wasn't alot to chose from as far as deterrents. She could be picking up a smell as some has pointed out, or even trying to get Ur attention.Either way,TRY to STOP her.Because it can be life threatening.Dogs have a super nose for smelling, and even if U cant smell something(they can).I have a friend who uses Listerine around the base of her couch where her poodle chews, and it seems to work. But justice(poodle) always seems to find a new spot to chew.U can buy products now at almost any Vet and pet shops.I chose to buy almost everything I use from a place called pet edge. I have enclosed a link for you.Hope this helps some.

No, it's just something for her to do, she thinks it's fun! At least her teeth are getting flossed! By her chew toys and pull toys (a bunch of strings that are tied together in knots) get her kongs and things to entertain her and distract her from eyeing that carpet! After you get her all these toys, when you catch her chewing on it, tell her "no" in a stern voice and give her one of her toys to distract her. Hopefully she will get it and stop ruining the carpet. Good luck! And by the way, my dog has lots of toys but anything he can get a hold of like magazines or phonebooks, he's rip apart and leave a fun mess for Mom to clean up. It's just what dogs do.

It could be to get your attention, but she may just have an upset stomach. When my dog was younger, I tended to notice he would pull strands out of the carpet and eat them during the same periods of time that he would try to eat grass outside during his walks. You might give her a little pepto bismol and see if it stops. However, my dog also goes after the carpet when he wants more attention from me. He figures negative attention is still attentiion.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tr.im/tHhdO

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Dogs eat everything. My dog LOVES to steal paper towels and napkins and eat them. I think they can just smell something on whatever they like chewing up. I think it's just something a lot of young dogs do. Just train her that chewing carpet is bad and hopefully that should solve the problem.

Be thankful she is eating the carpet and nothing else. My friend has a female beagle she likes to "recycle" herself, yes, she likes to eat her own c.r.a.p. on a regular basis, I know, very disgusting.

Just for variety.
She is bored, no matter how may toys you give her, she will chew anything she can get not just carpet.
