That's attempted murder, at least in Florida it is.
You don't need to actually shoot the gun to attempt a murder.
Florida law has a minimum sentence of 10 years just for pulling out the gun, the altercations that happened afterwards will surely add more years.

Assault with a deadly weapon is a serious charge, not to mention domestic violence, He will lose all his guns and hopefully go to jail. Anyone who has enough temper to strike the woman they love with the butt of a firearm should not own a firearm.

Your co-worker is very foolish.
He has put himself in an extremely bad position.
He could go to prison for a long time.
He needs to hire a good defense attorney fast.

Mostly that depends entirely on the Judge but domestic violence and assault with a weapon usually carries prison time with it so hope he likes drab gray and steel bars

depends on what state you are in you did not say?
I know in the state of fla its considered a felony he hit her with a moving object. You can even open your car door and hit someone its a felony!!!!
SO it depends if this is his first offence you did not state?
usually amazingly enough he will do probation and anger management.I have known people charged with three felonies in one incident and this is what they got.
But,like i said it depends on state. You did not say what he was charged with exactly makes a difference.
but first offense is pretty basic.

Dude! Hopefully he'll go to jail for a long, long time.
thats no shoving match!
Unless there's information that sheds more light on it, I have to say that the state is going to press charges against him for aggravated battery.
