From 3-5:30ish? She is 11 years old and her school is in our block. She has her own cell phone so she can call for emergencies. She told me she is ready.

My mom takes care of her (since she was a baby) but she keeps having trouble w/my daughter and my little sister (2 years younger than her). I'm getting tired of my daughter calling me crying that they are picking at her or my mom calling me at work to piss me off w/her complaints.

It may be better for all of us? More peace at least.

She is awful young to be home for 2.5 hours everyday by herself. Perhaps you can make some other arrangement if not every day at least two or three times a week. What about an after-school program or something?

if she's a responsible girl, i think she'll be fine. just make sure she knows the rules, has all emergency info and have her call you the minute she walks in the door.

I think that she is ready. Make sure that she is close with a neighboor in case of any emergencies. Just have her check in every hour or whatever you please.... as long as she is pretty responsible she should be fine!

MY SON IS 11 TOO AND HE STARTED BEING ALONE THIS YEAR ... TRY IT OUT BUT MAKE SURE YOUR MOM CAN CHECK ONHER ONCE IN A WHILE. SOUNDS TO ME LIKE IF YOUR MOM DOESN'T HAVE THE PATIENCE TO DEAL WITH BOTH - SHE WILL BE FINE.
