Since being an atheist means, you have no religion, you believe in no higher power, etc, than why do so many atheists ask and answer questions in the "religion and spirituality" section??!

To the person who asked if I would rather them go to the "cats" section...I have no problem with atheists asking questions about religions like Christianity and Islam, etc. but my problem is, many of the questions and answers by atheists are attacking our beliefs, suggesting us dumb to believe in God in such rude ways.

okay...atheists don't believe in God. It doesn't mean they have no religion. Okay. Got that. Bad wording on this question on my part. I guess what I really want to know is why some atheists come to this section just to attack the beliefs of others. Some who are believers have said things to atheists that are uncalled for at times too, but I just don't like when someone who doesn't believe is attacking my religion and what I believe in. If they think all believers are idiots, why do they argue with us? Why do some come to this section to insult the people who believe differently?

There are plenty of atheists here, I have seen many, many posts. People like to argue and this is where an atheist would come to argue against religion. Stringly devout based questions spark anger in the atheists and so they just have to respond.

Your point is well taken, if this area is for people to help find their meanings in religion then the atheists are just a negative influence, like people coming to see the Yankees play baseball just to boo them. Both camps need to be more respectful of the other, I see a lot of atheists respond to questions by implying christians are idiots who are suckered into a bunch of silly lies but I also see a lot of questions about how all atheists are going to hell, etc.

I don't believe this site would change the religion of either an atheist or a christian or muslim, for that matter so its all just wasted negative energy.

Oh, and according to a post on the first source I list, I'm supposed to say "Drink"

These references dispute the first poster who says he doesn't see any atheists on here.

On the contrary, some atheists are quite religious. Religion does not necessarily have to include a deity. Take Buddhism, for example. However, not everyone considers Buddhism strictly a religion.

As for being in the religion and spirituality section, you seem to have forgotten that Spirituality half of the category. Spirituality also does not require a deity. In addition, the lack of religion or spirituality is equally as relevant to the subject as is any other aspect of it.

1. Do a search on Y!A for "atheist" and see where you land.

2. The opposite of any topic is still a valid part of the topic. Atheist offer balance.

3. Theist ask us so many questions. It would be rude not to answer.

4. Some of us enjoy a good debate. It exercises the mind.

5. The drinks

This question has been asked before, did you not know? Atheists still have opinions and often know a lot about religion. This is not the God botherers section.

I must correct you here. Atheists do NOT have any religion. We do not believe in any god(s). Most, if not all, do not believe in the supernatural and paranormal. A fact which pretty much rules out any religious belief.

An Agnostic might believe in some of that stuff.

"Since being an atheist means, you have no religion"

NO it doesn't! It means you don't believe in God!

Are buddhists (most of which are atheist) non religious?

"than why do so many atheists ask and answer questions in the "religion and spirituality" section??!"

So you have to be religious to be interested in religion?

Since I am not a doctor is it wrong for me to ask questions on illnesses in the Health sections.

Since I am not a mechanic is it wrong for me to ask questions abotu my car in Automotive?

You know, atheists can be spiritual...believing in the human soul, true love, etc.

I don't, personally...I just go to this section because I like to debate and I like to learn more about others and their beliefs.

I'm curious about people's reasons for being religious, and there are a LOT of questions directed at atheists in R&S. For example, THIS question.
