The chickadees, tufted titmice, and nuthatches pick out the black sunflower seeds and leave everything else! (Perhaps this is my karma because I pick the M&Ms out of trail mix and leave the raisins...) I haven't gotten any sparrows or doves, so no one is eating the millet or safflower. Should I cave in and buy all black sunflower seeds next time? Or are the millet-eaters on their way? Tell me, experienced birders!

Hmmm...millet is usually enjoyed by many birds, including many types of sparrows, finches, juncos, doves, etc.I would wait a while, when the colder weather starts, you may get more birds. One thing you don't want in you seed mix is milo - it's a red grain, about three times the size of millet.I use a good mix of black and striped sunflower, peanut hearts, white millet,a bit of cracked corn, and some dried fruit.I also feed suet. But the little birds that you mentioned do enjoy sunflower seeds best, although they absolutely love chopped nuts of any kind, and suet as well.

We stopped buying the mixed feed, because the birds waste so much of it. The red millet in the mixed, is a waste, I don't know of a bird that will eat it. We just buy the black oiled sunflower seeds and it satisfies all of the birds, even the tiny one. In the winter, we do buy cracked corn, to feed the doves, because they like to eat on the ground.

I had the same thing happen with the birds I feed. I gave up a long time ago and just stick with the sunflower seeds.

i might pass with ordinarily sunflower seeds as maximum birds look to love them extra effective all of the millet looks to easily finally end up on the floor... you ought to objective getting thistle seed and putting it in a different feeder for the smaller birds they like that to boot. quite do the sunflower seeds & cracked corn birds like the two a style of.
