If you have a cold, sit at the end of the table at a place where you can get up without bothering others, and keep excusing yourself to blow your nose (nobody will mind; they'd rather you keep excusing yourself than see you blow snot right next to their food!).
Always excuse yourself to blow your nose... it's kind of tiresome to have to get up a lot, but it's better than being labled as the snotty kid that no one wants to eat with :]

Go to the bathroom. You may dab at the table, not blow. That sound is very unappetizing to those trying to eat. It's as appealing as someone hocking a lugie.

Well, if I need to do it really hard I'd go to the bathroom. But I usually do it very discreetly and silently so I just do it while at the table if I need to.... with a paper napkin or tissue of course, never the cloth napkin.......

Hmmh, well I've been known to tote a tissue box around with me.....and so are you!
Anyways, I just blow my nose real hard and try to blow it less often as possible. Good luck with that one, Ellie.

I always get up and do it discreetly. No other diners have to know what I am doing and no one is offended or disturbed.
