If you want to be a permanant resident in OUR United States.
You should have to
Join a branch of the United States Military.
Be taught correctly how to speak OUR langauge, respect for others, disciplined and learn to respect OUR Flag, laws , and our Constitution.
Volunteer to go to Iraq and fight for a year.
Prove to us that you are worthy !!!
that you will Fight for OUR Country ; Be willing to Die for OUR Country .
Just as we do and are expected to do.
You should earn your right to be here.
Not expecting everything to be handed to you.
While OUR people suffer by unemployment, poor medical benefits, underhoused...
And, So, that our men can come home, back to his/her Country.
I do not mean to sound rude and harsh.
But I feel this would be the most honorable way to obtain Citizenship in our United States of America.
And I feel that EVERY Illegal Immigrant should have to go through this Process.
If you are not free-willing to do this.
Then you do not deserve to be here!

Does that also go for our own citizens?

I like what you're saying but only 13% of Americans living today, according to the US Census, bothered to serve in our nation's military.

I'm all for the draft. I think President Kennedy was right on target when he said, "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."

It seems now all we have is a nation dedicated to John Wayne and Ronald Reagan who both dodged the draft.

We've become a nation of couch potatos and spectators who tend to idolize celebrities who failed to do anything for our country. These are our role models?

Excuse me but I pass. I volunteered for the military and was in boot camp 2 days after graduating from high school. I ended up in special forces and I have a great appreciation for our military that goes far beyond flag waving, fireworks and parades.

Not that it's all glory but if you weren't in a forward deployed combat positon you wouldn't have a clue what America is all about.

We have enough laws already. Trouble is, our law enforcement folks are NOT allowed to enforce them. As for some of your examples...
My great uncle Bill and family escaped from Holland as the Nazis were marching in. Uncle Bill came here before the others. He was told to fight for the U.S. and he'd be given his citizenship. He did all of WW II in the Dutch East Indies working as interpreter. At war's end, he was promptly deported. It took him years to be readmitted. Still, he was proud to have served.
