Popping is not really "bad" but if you're ending up with a numb area, I'd see a doctor and discuss this with them. Could be nothing more than a pinched nerve, but it's best to be sure.

No, you will not break your neck. Although the neck (cervical vertebrae) are vulnerable to injury, It takes more than that to break a vertebrae in the neck. You are not helping your neck pain by "popping" your neck. What you are doing is over stretching the ligaments, amongst other things, which can cause more problems down the line. Here's a website that explains what's going on.

Please go to this site also.

After you read those two, if you still want to "POP" your neck, maybe you need a Psychiatrist.

If you are only 14 years of age this tightness and discomfort in the neck is pretty suggestive of postural problems. The muscles of the neck are pulling the vertebrae out of position and not allowing them to return to their normal position. You have to overcome that one sided tightness by overcoming the tension it produces and allow the bones to go back to their proper position. Is what is accomplished when you pop the neck.

Why you have not seen a doctor of Chiropractic before now is a bit unusual.. He/she will determine what is needed to change the postural discrepancy and get rid of the unequal muscle pulling in the neck.

Popping your neck a lot is probably causing it to hurt. That popping noise comes from over stretching the tendons and ligaments. Popping your your neck or anywhere else becomes a habit that you need to break because it can lead to nerve damage (chronic tendinitis) ( I used to pop my right ankle and it got to where it hurt all the time)

Some nerves do get pinched and I met once a man (middle aged) who was doing it too often and ended up as a surgical case because some nerves got cut! So, be careful. And why should the neck hurt at your young age? May be some wrong posture? Talk to your parents!

it is much more likely that you will cause vascular problems to your head which might result in dizziness, nausea, blacking out, etc. it's a dumb thing to play with your upper neck. you're messing with your spinal cord/central nervous system. see an hio method upper cervical specific chiropractor to get it properly corrected, then leave it alone.

your neck should only "popped" by a professionally trained doctor of chiropractic.
