I think I may be having a panic attack and would like to know if it's possible to pass out from one. I'm currently home alone a with a friend on the phone who is trying to help me calm down, but could I actually pass out because that it I feel like is going to happen.

you usually don't pass out from panic attacks. Just relax and try to stay calm, I promise the feeling will pass. Also, no caffeine, it makes the attacks worse. Just stay calm and focus on something that makes you feel good and happy. You'll be okay.

a panic attack is caused by a release of adrenaline from the brain. good news adrenaline is a very short acting hormone, 15 minutes tops, so, if you just sit quietly and breathe slowly, the attack will pass quickly. If you hyperventilate, your brain isn't getting enough oxygen and yes you could faint, would be your own doing, but then at least you would automatically begin breathing normally and when you came to, the attack would be over.

Panic attacks are very scary. I had them for years. You feel like you're going to die (or pass out), but it's actually your mind (and body) trying to remind you that there are things that happened to you that need to be healed. If you are not working with a therapist at this time, I would highly advise it. There are medications that can help, and books about panic and how to deal with it. At the very least, I promise you are not going to pass out, or die. Talk to a mental health professional for help. Anxiety is usually a symptom of depression. Take care of yourself.
