Hi, does anyone know of a good shampoo I can use on my dog. She suffers from seasonal allergies and scratches a lot and so I was told to get a hypo allergy shampoo. Anyone know of a good one. Thanks.

Get a good flea shampoo at your veterinarian. Just go to the counter and give them your question, their educated answer is free and shampoo is not that expensive. The key to good dog shampooing is when you think you have the soap off, rinse the dog again. Lots of scratching is caused by too often shampooing which drys the skin, and leaving soap residue on poor fido which irritates.

Try your vet's office. They can sell you a prescription shampoo such as Chlorhexiderm to help your dog (I'm assuming her allergies are manifesting themselves in the form of skin infections?) There is also allergy testing and allergy shots available for dogs. You may want to consider it...it really makes allergic dogs feel a lot better.

Oatmeal and Aloe shampoo is good for scratching and makes the coat soft and silky.

Also your vet might have the right kind of shampoo you need too. I have a shampoo that works for everything its called vet Solutions that I got from my vet.

usually you can stop all the allergies by feeding her the proper foods. It works much better than hypo allergy shampoo. i am a groomer and i have found that if you feed your dog lamb meal and rice food and order some 3V Caps (get on line) (petmeds.com) this is a compounded fish oil ingredient. it is better to be pro-active than reactive. if she still has problems seasonally give her a benedryl when it gets bad....ive never had much luck with shampoos......good luck

my dog suffers from allergies too. although what ur describing, it sounds like ur dog may have fleas too, but it is very hard to tell unless u go to the vet. i would say get rx shampoo or hypoallergenic dandruff shampoo. do not use regular shampoo like herbal essenses or "people" shampoo because it tends to irritate thier skin and makes them flake even more.

PLEASE take the advice of "2Westies" over and above all others. I PROMISE you, thats the best choice for a hypo-allergenic shampoo. I groom 15 or so animals a day and have for 17 yrs. NEVER have I had a complaint on this product. Also, dont spray perfumes, deodorants, etc or put chlothes on tour pet. they all contain irritants to sensitive skin. I use Buddy Wash (natural ingredient) with Buddy Rinse.
But I am planning to buy CowBoy Magic after I finish the current shampoo.

My basset hound suffers from many many allergies, he uses a rx shampoo from the vet. That's where I'd start. Even if you only call them for the recommendation.

If your dog is that serious, then you should really talk to your vet about this. He or she will suggest an appropriate shampoo that will make your dog squeaky clean and happy again!!!

There is an oil that is an herbal rub that you can use that doesn't rinse off. Try Doctor's Foster and Smith. They make a wide variety of products for the problem you are describing. I have used itch stop and it worked great. Good Luck.
