Unfortunately, digital cameras are generally very fragile when compared to film cameras. If you dropped this one it may have internal damage that only a repair shop can deal with.

Depending on where you purchased the camera, you may have had the opportunity to purchase an additional warranty. If you did so, check the rules on it. Some additional store warranties cover accidental damage. If you don't have coverage for it that way and it is a very expensive camera if may be covered under homeowner's insurance (but unless its worth well over $1000 I wouldn't go that route due to deductibles).

If by some chance this happens to be a camera with removable lens - take off the lens and then reattach it. The contacts may have been jarred. If that doesn't work then try a new lens.

Repair work on digital cameras can often be more than the camera is worth. Just having one looked at will run $50 before they do anything in most cases. That being said, if you don't have any warranty or insurance coverage on the camera I would try opening the case. Just take the screws out and CAREFULLY look to see if you see any cracks or pieces out of place. If something is obviously disconnected or out of place you may be able to fix it. PLEASE realize this will probably NOT work. But it is a last ditch effort before purchasing a new camera.

Best of luck with this. I know how heartbreaking it is to drop a camera.

I sounds like you've damaged your camera. You can get an estimate for getting it repaired, buy you may find that the estimate is more then the cost of replacing your camera.

Since you dropped it, it isn't covered by the warranty. Repairs will likely cost more than a new camera. Use this one as a paperweight and enjoy shopping for your new camera.

Since you dropped it, it sounds like the auto-focus is broken or the lens itself out of alignment. If it has a manual focus, try that - if not you'll have to get it repaired.
