I wanted a cat ,so I looked in the newspaper and found someone giving a two year old cat away cause thier parent who owned the cat had died, the woman told me that he was very shy he was living with another male whom is his brother and a female cat whom was a couple years older. She told me the two males picked on the female alot , well anyway I bring the cat home and it continues to hide in my room under my reclyning chair and at around four and five in the morning it begins to meow or cry or what ever for about a hour , but it won't come out to eat or drink water , what I want to know is , is this cat going to get over it or just die from fright or loneliness or what? and what can I do?

my girl was quite traumatized to when i first brought her home she was also with her brother all her life as well.but is a very terratotrial cat.hates other cats.when i first brought her home she hid under the bed and would not come out.even had to force her out of the carrier.she also cried when i left the house for she wasnt used to being alone give it some time.took about a week before tabitha started to respond to me.as far as food and water goes just leave the bowl by the chair then slowly move it to the place you want it to be when the cat gets more comfortable with its surroundings.and i know most people will tell you otherwise but when i let her outdoors she became a happier cat id wait at least 6 weeks though so she knows this is her new home.could be a reason shes crying at 5am.if i have to keep my cat in thats when shell wake me up to remind me to let her outside.p.s.having the owner die is very traumatic for the cat as well as having a new home just like with people it takes time to adjust after a tragedy.maybe down the road consider a companion for your cat female since you said the other males picked on her.gl

First of all you have to understand that the cat has left its secure surroundings and is in a very unfamiliar place and feels very insecure and misses its previous owners and the other cats. It needs a lot of patience, love and understanding and you can give it that if you really love cats. You can help it by keeping the door of your room closed so that gives it some security. Place the litter box close to where it is hiding under the recliner. Also find out from the previous owner what was its favorite food that it ate. Place that and water and some treats again close to where it is hiding so it does not have to venture too far out for food. When it is absolutely quiet during the day or at night it will surely come out and eat. When you are at home in the evening peek in on it and talk to it in soft voice first, then extend your hand towards it so that it sniffs it. Keep doing this every day till it gets used to you and the room first, then gradually after a few weeks you may leave the door to the room open at night so that it may come out and explore the rest of the house. But remember cats are not like dogs. Try this. All the best.

she is probabably very frightened if you have had her longer than 2 days she needs to get water and food into her try leaving some out right where she is then go into another room and close the door

I accompanied a cat 4 wks in the past and it took her a pair of week to return out of hiding. Your cat will take longer by using abuse. What you will desire to do is placed the recent cat in a small room with foodstuff, water, and muddle field. keep the door closed so as that the different cats will depart it by myself. depart her in there and go in sometimes yet do not attempt to p.c.. her up. merely take a seat and spot if she will come and spot you. do not tension it on her. by using having the cats separated they are going to visit the door and would have the skill to sniff one yet another and get used to the fragrance. this could take a while with the recent cat. Why did you're taking a cat that became into on your words very abused and merely placed her right into a house with 2 different cats and a "dod"? supply up putting foodstuff acceptable close to have been SHE IS HIDING. in case you like HER to return out she will would desire to FOR foodstuff AND WATER IF that is not acceptable THERE...... The cat will pop out for foodstuff and water. you're saying which you have different cats i could think of which you recognize this.

We rescued a cat/kitty that was very shy and hid for about 6 mos. Its been three years and he loves us now! Give it time. Try putting his food and water next to where he is hiding. He'll come around.

Buy some tuna and put a can by the chair. He should come out and eat it. See if you can get closer to him each time he eats until he finally gets used to coming out from under that darn chair

He is scared and lonely. Wouldn't you be if you were suddenly somewhere unfamiliar? Give him time. Make sure he has food and water available. He will not starve under the chair when there is food and water within reach. He will come out to eat. Just give him time.
